hmm you typically go bigger / more just before you start to down scale, it has no year / age / sex or skill discriminator, budget and space are only obstacles designed to test your innovation and stamina.

If you are asking the question you have already subconsciously started to tackle the obstacle course.

Lurker here... But thought I would add my 2c. I have been gifted a 35l setup... Wasn't sure on size initially. When finally got the measurements for the tank I realized size wouldn't work for the intended use I had spent weeks researching and planning.so bought another 54l a buddy found for me. Hadn't even seen the first one yet. So now I have a shrimp tank project added before I had even taken ownership of as much as an airstone

Ps:54l scrubbed and half filled for leak testing... It has begun

It's easy to blame the fish

 

I went 30, 60, 100 then debated the 1000ltr+ route and settled on a 450ltr because the price was fantastic but I’m on the hunt for a 1000+ltr tank now again. If funds and space allow it. (A note for anyone getting rid of a tank)
MTS got ahold of me and I try and try downscale but it only ever seems to worse. Acquiring bits and bobs along the way creating little projects then scrapping them and starting over on the small stuff. All these pico related things since lockdown has started to create a problem around the house.

 

I would also love a 1000litre tank.
Low tec planted with only emerald and chilli Rasbora's and some Hillstream loach and then plenty Caradina shrimp. But sadly I don't have anywhere to put the tank...

I'm not a fan of hillstream loaches being kept in every other planted tank because they look cool and eat algae, they don't tend to do well long term. I would like to set up a rheophilic tank for extreme flow loving fish such as hillstream loaches, river gobies and so on.

As for the large tank dream [mention]Whoknows [/mention] you need someone to knock down a wall I’m there.
Today I got my eheim 1500xl that I’m going to use on the discus tank for now but it’s a purchase for the one day big system. Iv loaded it with 4ltrs of matrix, 4ltrs of ceramics , all the bio balls I had lying around that fit aswell as the various layers of filter media’s and all I need is to still buy a bag of purfiltrum. I can’t wait to setup it up after I move.
