ok the tank only has 10 neons and 10 red danios in, would they suffer? so you reckon the bleaching will have no effect on the anubias and other plant which is attached to the wood.

what you other guys think of the bleaching? sounds like a nice easy way of sorting this out.

imo, when you dose excel (weekly) instead of just pouring into the tank, use syringe and squirt onto affected area. this does work. you dont have to add extra excel. just the normal doses you add.

Hi, it was shihr that suggested cutting it back not me.
People often attach moss in little clumps because they want thick bushy moss.
You should however seperate the fronts and spread it thin but covering all the spots.
This gives you nice full growth but looks better and keeps clean easier.

I would if I were you remove all the plants, float them in tubs and dose excell and scrub down the
wood after drying in the sun.

I promise you the bleaching method works, I've done this many times when receiving dodgy looking plants too. Just remember to rinse it very well. No damage to the plants and you wont have to subject your fish to any chems.

    update :
i removed the wood from the tank, trimmed the moss down, scraped off as much of the black algae as i could, soaked the wood with the anubias on in the bleach mixture for 2 minutes, rinsed properly a few times, then put back in tank.
well the parts where i removed the algae with a butter knife is looking nice, i see this morning that on some parts of the wood, there is pink/red marks, is this the algae dying or what?

Otherwise all went well, no fish were harmed, the anubias look good so far.

Thank you everyone for all the help and suggestions, i will just keep using excel as i always do, that should see to things if the bleach did not do1 100% job.

    Thanks again
