The mother of a lot of the above males gave me another 30-40 fry yesterday - the mother looks so thin now!

The virgin females with red showing in the tails. I breed them now to brothers showing little black in the tails and dorsal. With this I hope to get bright red half black offspring.

Apologies if this has been covered earlier on, but do keep only the one male and female that you want to breed in a tank? How do you "fix" the strain once you have the desired offspring?

    Nice photos by the way!

Because I have started from scratch, I am still experimenting towards getting the perfect red half black guppy. At this stage it is putting together the best sisters and brothers in this line. In this line I am hoping to get females showing colour in their tails and males showing the bright red dorsal and tail and a dark body. The dorsal and tail shape, and size, is still something I have to sort out.

The red half black gene is very dominant from both the male and the female.

I have bought two very big full red males that I am going to breed with some blond females carrying the red half black gene, hoping that I can crossbred this line in future to the red half blacks from the other line.

As mentioned, all this is new to me and I am learning a lot - and today I have sold the first 60 red half black males and 20 females!

    Any comments and advice welcome.

    Hi There,
Firstly a great thread! Do KEEP IT UP!

I would like to ask if you plan on removing the endler genetics? With the latest update above I see the colouration of endler is gone but the genetics are still there. See eyes.

    Thanks.

If so, any reason why it should be removed?

    Hello lennard,
I would imagine that they will come out somewhere later on?

Some of the males coming from my breeding:

Breeding red half black males with very dark half black females, I do get half black black(?) males. I am getting some males that do have red in the upper part of the tail and black in the lower half. Interesting enough the red part of the tail is growing faster than the black part. I am still breeding towards bigger/longer finnage - hope luck will strike soon.

I am still waiting for the first fry to grow out regarding the line where the females have colour in their tails.

Comments or advice will be welcomed.

    Hey youre doing well dude!
I do have one male with the longer finnage but I cant guarantee what he will produce. I did see some spotting on his tail though so it might end up working out negatively for you.
Keep the pics coming! I am on the same path with the blues and waiting to see the results!

    Thanks for the reply, Sash.

    Thanks.

The males with red dorsals and caudals have thick peduncles(?). That is why I am hoping for longer and bigger finnage in future. Most of the males do have darker areas in the red finnage, but I can live with that.

Please do post some pics of your guppies.

    Half black black?

Breeding for red half black guppies I did get some females that were half black black (?). Breeding with this females I am getting a few males that also show this half black black(?). In the first two pictures you are viewing a young male and an older male in the rest of the pictures. The lighting (blue light and flash) makes the black look lighter, but it does seem that the black part is actually a very dark blue?

@lennard, I've read that full black guppies can appear blue with flash photography, so I would gauge the colour that you're wanting to achieve under good tank lighting. I'm new to guppy breeding, so please don't accept this as gospel.

Blond line females and dark red half black males line.

This is the other line I experimenting with. The females were all virgin up to yesterday. The females are the biggest I have ever seen in real life - they are 5-6cm long! I have selected red half black males with red dorsals and tails.

They are the offspring of a Tequila Sunrise male and red half black females. The male was much bigger than my other males and I do believe the male carried this (bigger as usual) gene. The red half black females are also quite large adding probably to the size. Keeping 6 females as virgins in their own tank and feeding them well, also added to the size.

Looking forward to the offspring of this line because the yellow/blond in the females will probably give me some bright red colored males?
