Cool, thanks for your reply!I agree there can be many causes for fish to develop a deformed spine. If it is curveback, like you say, then some of the offspring should get it too before reaching adulthood since its a genetic condition. As i said before,i have two fish that look exactly like the one in your picture and i have been worrying it might be caused by TB.The problem with TB is that it is apparently very common, hard to diagnose and has the potential to become zoonotic. It will also not sort itself out but linger in your tanks causing infected fish to waste away slowly. However,i moved one of the affected fish into a separate nursery tank to drop her babies there and i will keep a close eye on the offspring.

yeah fish TB sure does sound nasty and it seems like you need to not only cull all the fish but destroy the tank, will be interesting if the breeding does carry - maybe one needs a x and a y that have the curveback issue for is to be dominant. Rest of the tank seem healthy so I am happy to chalk this up as not being TB for now.

TB is not that common. More likely inbreeding and two bad genes coming together.

Looking to find a simple fishphoto tank .. initial results are more promising than shooting out of hand in a full tank.

Bubbles do not help so that must go.

but might go for something different

Great idea Ferdie :) Think a simple square tank, pico, would be perfect.

Giving me ideas here... my husband brought some acrylic off cuts home yesterday, more than enough to make a photo tank.
    Take some pics please Gerhard

Had some time this evening ... so proceeded with making an air lift, this is an eheim version - the inner pipe that sits just above the air stone is actually an eheim spray bar that just happens to get me over the lip with this lift.

    lift.jpg

I got an air pump with two feeds - seriously not that impressed good thing it is not in the fish room, not only is the practical air volume low but it is several factors louder than my old tetratec.

So my approach is a bit different ... I am starting with a pre-hit female that I hope will drop before the actual start date ...

    gup01.jpg

her tanks is and LED driven experimental substrate, freshly planted with no filtration setup, come winter it will probably also not get a heater - since she comes from a previous tank that had the same energy investment.

    gup02.jpg

Why her ... she is a good size, probably has a few more drops in her, .. I like the tail - not solid but not totally devoid of colour. No clue who the male(s) are but the candidates are for sure in her old old tank - so maybe we get.

    hopedady.jpg
Hope the male is the black smudge on the left ... nice deep colour and good size fins.

I will probably do one more similar pick from the same tank .. so a good looking female - she will go to one of the out-side tanks close to the day of her drop.

This might be the second candidate ... also pre-hit.

She will be going to an out-side tank.

And I finally have green water.

Well on the one hand - the single mature female in a tank seems to have dropped a few fry ... they are all doing well.

    tank1.jpg

Then I spotted red males at lifestyle - wow the size on these males are well BIG.

    tank02.jpg

Now AFAIK, I have never bought males this BIG or the red dominant colour. So maybe if they survive the week they could be come the three males I will have as by initial male stock.

    tank03.jpg

    tank04.jpg

Thinking of adding blond, endler and full black females for each male.

Lifestyle ordered two colour batches from Sir Lanka - the reds you see here think they are called red neon's in the trade, he also had / has a few blue neon's but they did not travel well.

    Lol - Beta..
