Haha Ferdie that female almost went home with me. Was there when they dripped them and put them in the tank.

That female is very close to the one I am going to use.

Yeah think that was Monday when the stock arrived .. I normally let them sit a few days but did not think she would be around much longer.

Chatted to the guys a bit - they had the tanks at 28 degrees so hope these do OK in my 22 degree tanks.

If anything I will be happy to take the fry from these two and add them to general population - getting some new blood in my tanks will be a good thing. They are pre-hit so lets see.

So those 2ft LED T8 tubes - to bright and to much power....

Found these 1ft T5 "tubes" running at rated 5W - still need to measure and calculate.

    1ft01.jpg

Either the 2ft tube are degrading real fast or the 1ft sting is just a bit brighter.

    1ft02.jpg

But on a side note the T5 enclosure has less aluminium but also a tighter angle due to light coming off the extrusion.

    1ft03.jpg

I am very happy with a bit of shadow in the tank against the sponges..

No no --- the challenge starts 1 December - only kidding.

Actually I have not introduces new guppies into any of my existing tanks for a very long time, must be years .. so I am reluctant to the point that I will probably only introduce the off spring.

Still finishing some of the setup so that it is as low maintenance as possible, I have a tendency on these smaller projects to set things up so that they can run for 6 months to a year without me having to en cure extra costs or re-do time. Also waiting for a Thailand shipment next week, that might bring in some other strains that I might want to breed with rather, but then it is done.

I am little behind, should have had the planting all done by now.. even if it is just stuff stuck to rocks.

hmm - had a quick look in the outside tanks .... could almost not spot a single guppy (been moving some out to make space for the challenge),my fears have been confirmed

    ohwell.JPG

The guys did not take kindly to that temperature drop we had ...

Oh well ... moving on to the living.

Lifestyle, order went in on Wednesday ... they expecting it this Tuesday / Wednesday. (They have so many at the moment not sure what tanks they going to be putting the new stock in).

Mine are still ok .. but they have not joined any of the other tanks yet. Will probably look at adding them shortly.

Will post when I see them ..

I have also asked that they not mix the thai with the Vietnam or remaining Sri Lanka stock - not sure if that will happen.

Since I have no heaters running, thought I would take a quick look at power consumption

Filters only - 180 Watt (and let me qualify since not all my tanks have filtration - 5 canisters, 3 HOB's, 3 internal that drive the HMF's in this thread and 3 airpumps for outside - plus other stuff in the room that is on 24x7)

Light and Filters - 390 Watt
Computer 90 Watt with LED screen.

    Above all measure at plug.

    Now for the numbers ..

    180 x 24 + 210x9 + 90x6 = 4320 + 1890 + 540 = 6750 in 24 hours or 282 watts per hour on avg.

Don' t think I am in the top consumption range for the house but lets say I am then we should be paying R1.4 kW/h for city Power.

282/1000*1.4 if my math is right means 40c per hour on avg so R10 a day or R310 a month.

For a hobby that gives so much back I am more than happy to spend this on power.

and this is why you need a QT for guppies from any LFS ......

Spotted a problem this morning in the one tank, lucky I have not added my males yet.

    darn01.jpg
Added some rooibos to the tank .. maybe she can win the fight.

Good luck man. The positive is that you may find an even better female to mate with. I mean for your male gippies of course:)

He he ... yeah - been feeding the other tanks mosquito larvae, oh boy that seems to but the growth thing in overdrive, so I actually have some goodly sized females for the red's. Just glad I have for the first time in years been doing QT's very out of past character, but seems to have paid off.

BTW seems like the Thailand shipment if postponed ... so will have to start with the stock I have on hand.

Getting a good hall from the one tank - say every 2-3 days or so ...

    001.jpg

    002.jpg

I do not bother to divide these ... just feed a different tank every time I harvest some.
