It is advisable to replace the stocking with a sponge on the filter's intake.
Most of my HOB and powerheads, have a big sponge on the grill of the intake.
Besides not sucking the fry in, the other advantage is that the filter-cartridges stay clean for a lot longer!
I now and then switch the filter off, and clean the intake sponges under a tap, as all your backteria are in the main Bio-filter, and the intake sponges are used mainly as a mechanical filter!
Hope this helps, as one can never over-filter!
    Gert.

Yep, then I am pretty convinced that they are silver scalare, as the female is a LOT smaller than the male. They are lovely fish... and real characters.

Will the sponge not be sucked up into the pump with time? I've just got back from the LPS with a new sponge filter. Will put it into the tank this evening, and will take the submersible pump that feeds into the sump in the hood out in 2 weeks time.

As I've said before, my plan was to get the sponge filter in if they settled down... which it didn't look like they were doing. But they seemed to have settled down literally overnight and spawned sometime yesterday. So they caught me with my pants down...

One can also leave a piece of lettuce in a glass jar full of water in the kitchen for a few days, when the water turns turbid you can siphon it off and feed your babies locally. Apparently hardboiled egg yolk minced up and mixed with water also works

    An excerpt:

I've seen this quote somewhere... old literature/book perhaps?

Can I use a plastic container? Must the container be open, or must it be sealed?

I got the lettuce, by my lovely dear wife didn't manage to find any glass jars.

I've always used a large unsealed mayonnaise jar, but I'm sure plastic will suffice :)

On the infusoria side. What I did Zoom was to use some of the fish tank water in a Jacobs Coffee glass pot and added the lettuce to that. Let it sit in the window for a few days and you'll see the water change.

Then what I did was to take a piece of air tubing and made hole in the screw top of the Jacobs pot. (Make it a bit smaller than the air tubing so the tubing can't slide out.)

Get yourself a stainless steel air tube "tap" and start your siphon with the tap open to full and close the tap more to give you max 5 - 10 drops a minute.

This way you'll feed them the whole day and don't need to worry that they might go hungry.

Geez that is s really great idea +1 ACE007

One that i think we could all adapt to suit our needs and i'm sure will be put to good use.

One questune does the infusoria have to stay in sun, or once its setup can you move it.

@Bauer - the infusoria feed off the algae, so probably best to leave it in the sun to maintain good food production

Zoom, you will notice that the parents "mouth" the eggs.
They are in fact cleaning them, and they will remove some of the white ones, as they pinch them, they in fact burst like a rotten egg.
They also remove some fungus and in fact it may look like they are eating the eggs.
Don't worry, this is pure instinct and they will get the hang of it in future spawns.
Good luck and keep us updated!
    Gert.

Yeah, I've watched them clean.. they just not that good at the moment. Often ignoring the white ones, and often the fungus grows quiet badly. This time seems to be better tho... no fungus yet.

    Look carefully!
Are there no wriggles somewhere else?
The parents sometimes move them to a secluded spot or where is a little water-flow.
