    That looks great, how do you get your moss to grow out so thick?
    It looks like spiky moss on the tree, flame grows much more vertical and doesn't grow in a fern shape like that.

    @Anine

    I sold almost all the moss to Peter and Bronwyn.
    I know Bronwyn has been growing it like weed in her tank.

    I now only keep small amount of spiky,loads of flame and then some phoenix
    moss.

    @Zoom moss is really looking healthy, all you need now is for that HC to spread

    Hey Ashley, really looking good! Well done man. Just watch the hairgrass next to the HC, it has the tendency to overpower whatever you plant around it.

    HC is actually dying off. If you go back a few pages you will see how much I originally had to what I have left now. Doesn't phase me tho... just a flipping expensive mistake!! (I think I paid around R400 for it! Rip off I tell you. RIP OFF)

    @Zoom, This is my Nano http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?8244-Nano&highlight=NANO

    I have the same problem with the Green hair algae on glass and leaves and a bit of brown algae on the moss(on a stick) . Not dosing Excel and potassium. My question is, where can I get Potassium and how much?

    PS: your nano looks great.

    Seachem Flourish Potassium. Around R50 for a bottle... lasted me over 4 months, and bottle still 3/4 full

    Ashley, if you want to save and propogate the little HC that you have left, here is a very simple solution.
    Pull them out and float them in a guppy breeder or something similar. They will have access to your tank nutrients and much higher light levels. They will grow very fast this way esp since you have co2.
    Just an idea, since they melting away anyway. Then you can look at the cause for them not thriving.

    @boebie,

    I may just do this.
    The Nano tank however doesn't have CO2, only excel, BUT having said that, I could float it in my main tank for a while?

    I actually think I know the reason it's not doing too well.... not enough light. My nano is pretty deep (about 45cm from light to substrate. (The main tank is even deeper).

    I honestly thought 2 CFL's on the Nano would have been good enough for the HC... but obviously not.

    I actually went back over this thread, and I proved a point in this thread that a single CFL mounted VERTIALLY promoted better growth than when I had 2 CFL's mounded horizontally. There's enough literature on the internet to explain why. Now I am running a taller Nano, 2 lights horizontal, and even my hairgrass is taking longer to grow. So there are some answers to everything if you keep plodding along.

    Yeah I know... actually... to be completely scientifically correct, CO2 and Excel are a CARBON source for the plants. Excel is available for the plants in a different type of carbon and research has shown me it is actually used at a different STAGE of the plant's growth than the Carbon from CO2... obviously because different TYPES of carbon are used/taken up at different stages. Carbon available in the form of PRESSURIZED CO2 give far better results than the Carbon being available from Excel source.

    i think it may just be because co2 is given in a consistent way compared to excel which is every other day.. Even if Its given everyday, Its still a huge dose which is used up slowly compared to co2 which is given in small amounts over a long period of time..
