I boy now I am lost. Guys can you please translate. I would hate to have missed some important info about keeping discus if that is what you spoke about.

@Marco it was nice meeting you saterday at Pet Stop. You have some awesome discus dude. Would love to get a 2m tank and fill it with discus but at the moment I'm still learning with the 3 I got about a month ago. Haven't got the guts yet to take on these natural beauties.

Phew....wont happen again soon hey! Too stressfull! Best now is hope we get these to adulthood and they breed.
Had an email from the breeder today and even he agreed, way too worrying to do this again. I wouldnt want to do it regularly.
Everyone got more or less the same size fish. They were quite small when they landed, R2 size about, but have grown quite a bit in just over a week.
Theses guys are from 3 different pairs and differ in age by 2 weeks per group, so the oldest group is a month older than the youngest.
Importing these were quite expensive, so importing adults would be astronomical. And risky, as adult fish do not travel so well.

Mine are a little "upset" as my Greens seem to be "at it" again...so everything is being chased into a small section of the tank.

Apologies for rushing out on saturday. We were still sort of talking, got distracted and then I had to go. Was nice meeting you also!

Dont worry too much about which Discus you now have and which you want etc etc. We all started out somewhere! I got my first Discus tank in 1989, and back then I could freely choose between Brown discus and Brown Discus, and ever so often I was lucky and could get my hands on a few more Brown Discus.....lol To this day they still remain one of my favourite Discus although the Brown as it was known back then are hardly available anywhere in the world.

The domestics available today, though some have appealed to me in the past I must admit, have just "lost" a little something in their beauty. Its all relative I suppose and we all have our preferences, but to me there is no domestic variety that can stand up to a nice Wild type discus. They really are superb looking.
And as far as keeping them - if you understand that Wild discus require a bit more care with their water than domestics, I can honestly say they are far superior in strength. I suppose its a genetics issue, but domestics are far more problematic than Wild discus.

Ugh...dont hold your breath....Ive been through this a couple of times. I think the female enjoys having the male beat every other fish up, but when it comes to spawning shes not so willing.

Its ok, rather blame me than accept the blame. That way you stay out the dog box and have a happy marriage! Things we do for our friends....

 

@Marco - I want to hold my breath on that!! You NEED to spawn those wilds bud! Seriously! Come now, get with the program!

Maybe look at adding a red light to the garage, and play some Barry White in the background to get them "in the mood"?

 

@ SeanJ - it's NOT a Bordello - just a fish breeding area so no need for a red light - might attract the wrong types !!!

 

Lol red light, or green light do what ever you have to do to get them to bread.

 

You guys pimping out my fish! Ive considered Viagra....but its the female thats not playing along so thats of no use.
Btw @Sean J, as I predicted it just played out into nothing again. Shes now swimming happily along as if nothing happened.

Congrats on your new Discus, they are past stunning!!! Whenever they are big and spawned, I am definately also interested in buying some from you and the other guys. Congrats to all the other members that also got some off these Discus. You guys should start making a waiting list for these Discus.

Just out off curiosity, what do you guys think about Stendker Discus. Not per say a specific strain but in general, quality, hardiness that sort of thing.

Im no expert on Stendker discus. Ive gone to see some of the stock that was imported a while back, both by the importer and the shops that had them, and they seem ok.
The bigger ones which were on offer were a bit suspect shape wise, and the colour was not as evenly and well developed as some other fish I have seen, but they were not bad. Compared to other imported discus they were superb....
Theoretically Stendker fish should be tough, well looked after and at least not stunted upon purchase, and according to guys who have kept them they grow massive. Shape and colour is where they fall a bit short but I dont think its a massive issue.
Personally I dont like them much but thats mainly due to the strains they offer. Have you seen their "Dark Angel" !!!???? Must be the ugliest Discus I have ever laid eyes on! Will give a child nightmares.
