Cichlids? mollies? Totally incompatible. . totally different water requirements . .

 

Depending on the Cichlid species. Mollies need hard water with a 7-8.5 PH and temp on 26, more or less in the same region as African rift Cichlids.

The incompatability is that the mollies would become dinner!

Belive it or not. I have 4 Mollies and 40 Cichlids for the last 3months and they are doing well together.

I must say I've used BioVital to get sumps going and it works like a charm! I'm not much of a microbiologist, but it seems to contain just about every little micro-organism you can imagine. I jumpstarted our koi pond filter with it and it works perfectly!

In my opinion it'll be best to just clear out the cannister, and chuck in a double dose of BioVital or a similar water conditioner to get things going again... not the raw powder obviously, just dilute it in 2 litres of water ;-)

 

The only cichlid that I can think of that will live with mollies is the orange chromide. Do you know that mollies are brackish? Which cichlids do you have in your tank that originate from brackish water?

I am not arguing that they are incompatible, I am telling you they are not.

Unless you have orange chromides then those mollies don't belong there.
