athol the tank may be 340l but your wood decor gravel/sand and the gap u leave at the top will shave a few litres off your total volume when u doing your calculations i expect

 

most likely.im just going to assume for the moment my lighting is not the problem and try the extra iron.

 

i dont think lighting is your problem....just get good reflectors and perhaps replace one bulb with the gro lux if you want. i wouldn't do anything till you get co2 in your water. you will be amazed at what it will do for your plants....also plants and fish need a constant day and night time so that timer is a must...also if you got algae already adding more ferts is not going to help the situation.

 

ok i dont think the pressurized co2 is gonna be starting this year with all the going away and holiday stuff so first thing 2012,will just have to ride this year out

Ja, it looks like Diatoms. It's normal in a newly setup tank. It's caused by silicates in the Silica sand and the glass. More likely the silica sand though. It will go away eventually. Ottos like it too. Just make sure you do your water changes regularly.

 

the tank isnt exactly newly set up i just did a big water change and swopped the fish around.

 

so i'v got the timers waiting to be set as soon as i figure out how,i'm thinking since its 2 lghts per timer(hope nothing explodes) 1st 2 on from 6am-4pm then add the second pair from 10am -2pm which sounds good as i suppose it simulates nature a little or should i just blast them for 10 hours straight.

 

algae is looking thinner not necessarily less i see the ottos busy there now again.no lotus leaves falling off for a few days now a week i think and the plant is getting to quite a size,also the rotala is almost breaching the surface(big smiley face).need to keep an on the crypts i see they popping up all over the tank.

Ok thanx will change the settings,ja its quite a big tank so 10 fit nicely also thought if i do get casualties i still have enough to carry on but havent seen any dead ones yet though the most i could count at 1 sitting was 7 i assume the others are somewhere
