Wine yeast lasts longer I think, there are ways to make it slower and last longer.

By the was adding a pinch of 'BS' sounds pretty suspicious :p

Yeah @Hendre, next time you have H202 - add a pinch baking soda to a 2L bottle that has the diluted H202 in - watch how H202 reacts with baking soda, causing it foam up. I was testing something for cleaning my shower windows effectively and this is what I learnt.

Hmmmmm, ok. This is some interesting reading. I'm going to substitute my diffuser for cigarette filters. Husband rolls things up and smoke them all the time so we should still have some lying around somewhere. That should sort out the problem with the balloon taking up all the gas!

@Hendre You're my savior for today. But today only, ok? Don't get too cocky.

PS: I might start selling ginger beer soon if anyone is interested....

I never heard of it either before then. How's the tank looking?

Don't worry I have plenty of other people to help and learn from on my main forum, I have 4,3k posts there in a year and a half

I have a 20 litre tank that I used to keep a betta in, it's a nice tank size. Was gonna breed paradise fish in it now but the male killed the female in another tank :(

Yes, domestic violence is definitely a problem in this country.

I saw you're quite busy on the forums.
The tank is looking ok. Im at work now so cant really check up on them but will do when i get home.
Also having friends over for dinner so the new filter thing will probably only happen over the weekend somewhere.

LOL I had a bit of help from my dad - he gave me the piping and that 3 way valve. The rest I did, learnt from googling and You tube videos

I read a reply from @BoelderBeestie on another thread about not doing too many wc's. its the thread about the shrimps dying off. I dont know how to copy links in tapatalk. Anyway, he says you shouldnt be doing them once a week like ive been doing and i must say ive been seeing a lot of molting. So i didnt do a wc last night as the fish and shrimp seem fine. Please tell me if im making a mistake here. Im going to do one again in two weeks and then ill do them monthly.

As for the cigarette filter mission. It works like a charm. I had to put two balloons on. One inside the other to double the resistance, but it seems to be working fine. Im getting way smaller bubbles than with the diffuser. Now to monitor and get the valve setting just right.

@Ane Here's what the tanks and shrimp look like. Top up only with a WC every 2-3 months no fish. These are two of my holdings tanks.

It looks good! Weekly is a good idea, I don't think you need to feed daily either. I feed my small tanks every second or third day

@Ane yes weekly water changes as Hendre said, you have fish in with the shrimp and the water will accumulate nitrates quicker. With only shrimp and plants the water stays good for a very long time. You also don't feed shrimp heavily which also helps.

The first tank has a small power head filter and the second a sponge. I just squeeze them out in tank water when I do a wc.

So if I have a planted tank and no livestock, can I get away with WC's? I mean my water is pristine and I only dose ferts/liquid carbon once a week now - just anubias, java ferns, bolbitus and bucephalandra, and a few crypt species as well.
