Really nice! Though I've only seen them sold as "Red Robbin" gouramis.

those are actually dwarf gourami's. the males come in that red and blue morph and then in a metalic blue morph.

I've seen "Coral Red" and "Coral Blue" dwarf gourami morphs, but Red Robbins tend to be smaller. My LFS probably got it wrong.

    Thanks Nirb ^^,
You joining this site has been a great :)

The first time I tried with dwarf gouramies, they didn't make it either.
I purchased a male & female recently however, and they're doing great. The male has built a bubble nest twice now and loves going for the female. She tends to ignore him most of the time though. When we got her, her colour was a bit "washed" but now she's starting to look more and more colourful :)

Their tummys are becoming quite plump now too.

Interesting; maybe the LFS always got Red Robbin colour forms in at a smaller size, leading me to the assumption that they were perhaps a smaller subspecies.

Perhaps the few times I've had dwarfs they had other internal issues, and I know that they can be quite nervous. I find with most gouramis the males can be pretty tough on the females so just check that your female doesn't get chased too much and can't get food.

On that note, three-spot gouramis can be quite ruthless in my experience and a large male had to be moved out of a tank with my Arowana because, well, he was nipping its fins... funny, but he had to go.

I would NOT put ANY sharks into a 100litre tank. You really gotta be someone special to do that. Those things grow, and need space. They are also NOT compatible with most community fish. Don't even go down that route. They look nice, but they are a waste in that tank.

Nirv... I don't think you've ever owned a pearl then... first of all... again... 100litres is WAY to small for pearls, because they grow too big. And secondly... they will chow just about ANY small leafed plant. They are VERY territorial, and if a plant is in their territory, and they don't want it there... boom, it's gone.

A pair of dwarf guoramis would looks stunning. My suggestion to a community tank is always have one STRIKING fish.. (dwarf guorami) and then a few schooling fish around. something like danios, tetra's etc. Guppies are also ok... but sometimes can take over the tank. Then look at the different levels of the tank. You will want something in the top (danios etc) middle (tetras) and bottom (cory's, ancistrus etc). The guorami will then be the main focal point.... if you like them that is.

Nah, she gets plenty food. He chases her because he wants some nookie, but thanks for the advice :)

Seem to be small everywhere, have not seen a big one either.

My dwarf went all territorial on me and I could not keep anything with it.
    Fish do behave differently though.

I've never had aggression from Pearls except between males and females, don't know enough about Dwarf behaviour to comment on that though. I forgot how small the tank is, so some suggestions won't work. I've kept three male Pearls and a female once at different times and they never did anything more than chase other territorial fish very short distances, and quite seldomly at that, causing no damage.

Then again, many fish have different characters, maybe I just got exceptionally placid Pearls but all other accounts I have read of them and my own experience shows them to be peaceful.

I think if you keep a gourami alone for some time they do not fit into the community again that fast or that great. If you keep it some kind of community you do not have the agression problem. Just my thought.

So Vis u think that if i get a gourami as a juvie and let it grow up in a community it should be fine, i would love to have one in my tank. I've also heard that it can be aggresive.

I'm thinking about that idea now, it seems to fit with what I have observed; all gouramis I have kept were bought as juveniles and seemed to be peaceful except the three-spot (which are already a bit more aggressive) which had been kept on their own at some point.

That all might change when they reach a certain size or their territories are disturbed though.

i currently have a pearl gourami and blue spot gourami in a 3 foot tank with some other fish, the pearl is aggressive towards the blue spot gourami, i just added the pearl in 2 days ago, i'm sure in a few days the pearl will start chasing the other fish, but no fish behaves the same in every tank...

They might still be building a "pecking order", so you might be lucky or unfortunately if your particular pearl is aggressive then you might have some problems.
