Impressive setup you have there Top Dog!

Maybe shield the bio-media from direct sunlight since sunlight kills bacteria?

Add some Seachem Ammonia Guard to the tank while you are waiting for filter setup to kick in.

does ro remove ammonia? was told it will not?
    problem is tank 1 is a 1800ltr with a 600ltr sump tank 2-3 are 700ltr each with a 250ltr sump
so i realistically need 1700ltr of ro water per water change and can not get close enough to flat to pump it in.
    does ro remove ammonia?

Did a water test on water I got from the garage had been sitting there for months and it cost r1.5 per liter if you have a container did a test and it had 0.1ppm compared to my 0.5ppm from my tap

Amguard is also a temp solution for 72 hours

Maybe you can find someone with low ammonia tap water and fill up some jugs and then u sorted

    thus was my first idea
problem is once i have the water closes i can get it to my tanks is 30 meters odd and can not park there for 3 hours while i try pump it out.
I an also far from a fan of differnt ph and trying to balance a blend to water changes.
think long term i need to invest in a full water treatment plant for household and be self sustaining. after this i am no longer drinking tap water.

If i may suggest look at some of the koi products I prefer aqua zyme as it has beneficial bacteria while it binds impurities the bacteria forms and converts the no3 and nh4 i can give you some to try. Its alot cheaper and will last you quite some time. 20g per 1000l and 1kg is around R100 depending on shop.

just read threw your thread, we are having exact problem. @Toy made comment about breaking down of the ammonia bond in prime, it last 72 hours and can break due to temperature fluctuations, ph changes and dissolved oxygen levels. My point is that using prime for ammonia is not a solution it is a emergy step that works for a short period but at some point it is going to crash genrellay 72 hours later.
I think this water problem is here to stay, and we need to know how to create or own perfect water.
    for me this mean:

    0 ammonia done threw zoelite
    chlorine free
    chloramine free
hopefully i do not need to worry about ph, historically it was 7.8 but lately it is above 8
this seems fesable for now, but i have no idea how long it will take, and i want to try re use water from tanks. will have to see how this works outs.

I have lost fish in the past to playing around with ph and hardness it is too volitle, i am dumb, and fish are pretty sensitive for long term solution based on me being a good chemist

Is the current tank ph 8 or the wc water ph8 ? If the wc water is a ph of 8 as far as i remember the zeo lite will increase it . It will drop with time but by that time the zeo lite will be depleted. A option would be to add an piece of drift wood to the container. I have used pool acid before but as you said playing with ph isn't fun. Wood will be an slower solution but more stable.

Or start an wood soaking service.

Just another question where did you find the water tank?

water coming out of tap is 8.2ph
think fish tanks are 8 but can not remember now
I had the flow bin lying around at my workshop, we use a few of them for saving water.
there is a place in centurion that sells good condition clean second hand ones for 900 plus if you need will find details?

Please do, I think 2 or 3 bins will be a good investment in the long run.

    Thanks for the info.
I would just double check the ph of the tank vs tap water vs container water. Just to keep that in consideration as the species you keep are more sensitive. It will also indicate the effectiveness off the zeolite if you need to recharge or replace.

Depending on the conditioner you use it may also have an affect on the ph aswell as your aim the nh4

Also out of interest the test method you used strips or liquid?

On my first water change I used the daro product mixed water before it went in the tank and I lost 3 fish. I try use seachem as much as I can they make awesome stuff and found that it doesn’t effect my snails
