What sort of snails were they?If you could crush them with your finger then they're likely ramshorn or pond snails. As long as you don't have Malaysian Trumpet Snails you should be okay-ish

If you have some small rocks or decent sized pebbles you could most likely tie the wood to that to keep it down.

Might as well do that, our bath leaks through the plug so every day i get home the bath is empty and the wood is dry....will tie a rock on it now, thanks!

Troy snails are not the enemy i have given up trying to remove them and just let them do their business, my peppered corries and guppies keep their population under control and in return they clean up the dead plant matter and leftover food.

I forgot to post about the snails, they're pond snails. They'll breed like crazy but they're easy to remove by leaving a slice of cucumber in your tank and just taking them off and repeating the process. You can never fully get rid of them though :(

Or you could get some botine loaches and they'll eat them all up for you :)

The problem with the loaches is that you'll have to feed very little for them to actually go for the snails. It seems to be more a snack than a staple food for them

    Thanks

Dont seem to see anymore snails.

I seem to have a problem. I have never seen this before when setting up a tank.
    Will upload a pic tonight.

Seems to be like white algae? The wood was only put in last night and it is starting on it.
On the substrate and plants there is also traces of it.
Is it the bacteria starting to form?

Im removing about 4 flys a day lol they seem to like taking a swim of death?

Also plants seem to be gowing brown and starting to die...reasons?
    Hairgrass is still fine though

yes u can put it on the glass.. just be careful though, halogen lights get very hot.. if u remove them and it suddenly becomes cold, the glass could crack..

to hide them, maybe build a cannopy? also maybe use CFL's instead of halogen.. it gives off less heat, lasts longer and is cheaper? only down side is that its not as bright.. but i dont think u will need such intensity..

if u look at my nano, i used a 2X20W CFL flood light..

also, y not use it in conjunction with ur flourecent lights? this will even the light out instead of just spot lights..

I have an idea of a cool way to mount two of those CFL spot reflectors over a tank. Like the Amano pendant lights, just with two beams coming up from the back of the tank.

Go for it dude, there's lots of options :)
