i dont know about filter floss, i have no experience with it, but as far as i know, aquarium (internal filter) foam should not start to disintegrate for a long long time..

Singularity is right about the overflow chamber... google durso standpipe and make yourself one of those for a quiet overflow chamber.

    Sorry if im hijacking here

durso standpipe - doesnt dirt/gunk collect at the bottom of your overflow chamber ?
also doesnt it slow the flow of water to the sump ?
(I already have issues with my return pump been almost faster the the inflow if the sump)

No worries. I have never used one but come to think of it, it might be possible.

I have no problem with noise, which there isnt any. Im just going to stick with what works for me

question, on your sump, the pipe running from tank is gravity? And you pump back via the gray pump? What would happen if you have an powerfailure? will your sump flood? drain your tank? or is the sump sealed...sorry for the questions but it is a beatifull set-up.

Yes it is Gravity to the sump and pump back to tank

I have an idea on what type of fish i want.

I want quite a large school of maybe neons as well as center fish, if you understand what i mean.

Question is how many neons and what center fish.
I still have plenty of time to make a final decision as tank must still cycle and i want the
tank to grow out before any fish is added

Suggestions are NEEDED lol, fire away!

when i started, i wanted all the fish!! but as time went by.. i realised that a single species tank (and maybe a algae crew) actually looks really good!! maybe splash out a bit and buy cardinals! far more attractive, school better and have less diseases! they just a few bucks more expensive though.. but very very nice!:) or rummy nose tetras? harlequins?! very nice schooling fish!! :) just dont get any angels with them.. ive been through that.. they become very expensive fish food for the angels:(

+1 on red eye tetras beign plant piranahs!! they destroyed my delicate plants :(

i have!! but im more a plant guy so they had to go! cool little buggers though:)

tiger barbs also have a tendancy to nip at other fish and plants.. but get enough of them and they should keep eachother busy.. very nice little schooling fish as well.. but dont be fooled.. they grow to 5cm too!!
