    Thanks guys!

@Vis i would do it, no doubt about it.....but a certain something eats my plants. Not sure who it is but they seem to be picking on the more 'soft' plants.
I think it might be the Buenos aires tetras.

@Zoom thats very true! After seeing your tank i just had to try it!

    It's looking great Troy!
I like the scape, and the plants should fill out nicely, so give it a chance before adding anything else :)

Basically its just a float swicth connect to a pump which is going to be in a big bucket or spare 3ft. Float switch sits in sump, water level drops, the switch allows current to pass through it turning on the pump.

Heres a pic of what the swicth looks like. I got it from hong kong. Paid R30 something incl shipping.

This isnt mine but i do have the exact one

That's awesome, I've been thinking of how to do that in a passive way for a while now, but this is just so simple.

Okay which is the right way of doing this.....Heater placed in the Inlet section of the sump or in the Outlet section where the pump sits in the sump..??????

It there any homemade filter media that I can use in my sump????

    Thanks

My heater is placed in the inlet. This insures that there is always water in the chamber so no risk on 'popping'.

Homemade media....hmmm not so sure. I know people use straws and cut then into small pieces? Other wise im not so sure

When i got back yesterday i was HORRIFIED!!!!
Lost a few fish, some plants died, some grew lekke!

Glass full of green algae. Plants have a black stringy algae and also something that looks like BBA.

Pump also seems like it is giving in. Black gravel is now covered in the PFS....Im thinking of redoing this tank now.

My plans are a rocky scape with lots of swords and a 3 sided moss wall (What moss grows in warmer waters and under low light?). Tank will be moved to my room this time.

    Project starts tomorrow

Okay, after we got back from our trip i needed to move the tank as we are renovating.

Tank is now in my room which only houses 3 bala sharks. Once i get a bigger tank they will be moved.

This tank will then be turned into a dwarf cichlid tank only

Dwarf Cichlids are great, then you can also have many plants and a lower light to bring out the green from the plants and the wood color
    Looking forward to the pics
Where exactly did you buy the float switch from? was it ebay?
