The river tank

Ok so you know how the airstones always cause a little water to splash out... well I noticed that my stand (solid kiaat top) was looking a little wet in the back corner, so I looked underneath and saw that the top was busy breaking, it had already sagged in the middle... so I packed some bricks underneath to support it and hastily started looking for materials to build a new stand, found some steel on the farm and got a sheet of 16mm supawood, I know SUPAWOOD...

This is what it was looking like before I had to tear it down last weekend, the moss and susswassertang had completely taken over on the left, plants are doing awesome, anyway took me 2 weeks to build a new stand, the supawood top I painted with fiberglass resin to make sure it is 100% waterproof, also there is now a shelf above for some small tanks

This is before I installed the tank, while the tank was empty I drilled it and fitted a proper overflow as I kept having trouble keeping the old syphon overflow primed, which also caused the system to overflow on a few occasions

It took about 3 days before I could get the fish back in, I just kept them in a big container with the sump running, and luckily no losses.

It took so long because while this was happening i re shuffled the fishroom to make space for the 2.4m tank in there, what a job!! But it's all in now

I will send a pic of the tank tomorrow, just sorting the lights at the moment

Huge stand. Are you going to add a support in the middle?

 

I have added support in the center yes... the shelf above the tank is supported by a solid backing behind the tank and 50mm x 50mm angle iron supports, so good and strong

So I think it looks nice, pulled a load of plants not so overgrown anymore

The small tank on the right will go as soon as I have the center one setup, the plants and RCS will be moved over, and then there is space for 4 x 30lt breeder tanks (2 on either side) for loads of shrimp maybe??

Tank loos so clean after the redo.... having a hard time getting pics of the hillstream loaches, they are zipping around chasing each other, looking like some spawning behavior... fingers crossed, or maybe they just enjoying the increased flow, upgraded the sump return pump, what a joy to watch... and the java ferns just exploded
Its difficult to get the true idea of the size looking at the pic, but this clump is about the size of a rugby ball... just stunning

Yes, neon blue goby and they are tiny... hardly ever see them myself
