if you are planning on setting up a local server then you need to disable avatars and pics, socondly you can get paid for putting adds on your site, later on you can add competesions (spelling) to boost the popularity.

Well local hosting is vaguely a bit cheaper than it used to be but for now still not worth it. ADSL on the other hand is a lot cheaper than it used to be so not much point moving locally except for speed.

And just for fun here is my speedtest results :)

    Local:

To Houston/TX where TASA is hosted only about 0.21mbps... :(
See what I mean by speed? :p

This site is slow. I am on an adsl connection from home. I am browsing all over the net. The page refresh rate is slower than most other sites i visit. At some point today, I reset my adsl router as I thought there is a problem. After rersetting this site was almost impossible to load. Some other sites including ibm.com and hp.com (all intl) were 10x faster. Even remote desktop over vpn was flying, just not this site. Seems the speed is picking up now, so it must be due to internet traffic at host site/country. Still prefer local hosted servers as RSA international bandwith is not up to scratch. my R100 worth, 2c doesn't cut it anymore.

It is your connection or your service provider, never experienced any issues browsing the forum on my uncapped accounts and I have a bunch of them. I even browse it from my phone without any issues. There is nothing wrong with our local bandwidth telkom is rolling out the 10mb connections in our area which I will be applying for soon. The problem is local hosting is not as cheap especially when it pulls a lot of traffic like this forum then it becomes expensive. Compared to international hosting.

I've never had problems either... At office I'm on ADSL, and at home I'm on Vodacom 3G. No hassles at all. Only 3G a bit slower in loading pictures.

The site is FLYING for me since the upgrade.

I checked this site yesterday: http://www.iwebtool.com/speed_test

I put in ibm, hp and tasa and generally (it changes every time you refresh) TASA was the fastest so it's definitely not an issue on the website side of things.

It trys to log on to a secure server, since I am useing a user name and password.

Opening secure connection, continue (I select yes)
Could not create a secure connection to this server (and doesnt log in)

I can log on using my blackberry or pc

That's just weird... There's no secure connection/server involved in logging in to TASA so don't know what it's trying to do there...

lol i find the last part of this thread such a laugh. The simple answer is we live in SA that means we have to deal with SA internet that i think we can all agree is a joke . how can people be complaining about a few seconds.

Thats what i get on the test...not really accurate is it. so as i can see the only benefit of moving is local bandwidth.
