@Pezulu would the Java Fern and Bolbitis be able to cope in 29degree water?

 

Bolbitis and Anubias originate in the Congo and Central Africa, so should be able to handle those types of temperatures. They are stated to prefer temps between 20°C and 28°C.
Java Fern is happier at temperatures between 22°C - 27°C.

Out of interest is the left side panel in on the tank \ glass level a builtin filter or is it the way your design the tank for decor purposes?

 

@AmithS The pannel was made to hide the pipes of the canister filter, wiring for the lights, airtubes and so on.

Was done to try and keep everything neat and we have a 1.5 year old so if its not tied or cemented down you will find it somewhere in the house.

 

Ahhh what a great idea @kingy I always just put my piping and wiring at the back without thinking is there a better way.

 

I suspect you will be doing loads of gravel vacuuming to keep the water quality high for the discus ... so I get why you are trying to mount or tie everything to wood so that it makes the maintenance easier. Planting the root feeders in a pot of sorts might be the easiest way to still be able to give them more focused nutrients that you can still easily remove should things go pear.

As for temps ... your tank is more about the fish than the plants, plants will adapt easier than your fish so get the tank at optimal balance for the fish and then support the plants that want to thrive in those parameters.

Maybe one should qualify .. will heavy root feeders grow in inert substrate - sure will as long as the water column has enough fertz. Is it ideal for the uptake process - no probably not, but are you looking for maximum plant growth here or is this just to be one step better than using plastic plants?

Running a PFS planted tank means you need to be paying way more attention to deficiency in plant growth. You have no reserves in the substrate and probably an underdeveloped bacteria population. The counter is dirt tank - with loads of possible potential nutrients over a very long time as the substrate breaks down the organics feeds the root systems. In the middle is the "plant specialist substrates" tuned for better growth in a short period of time esp if CO2 and loads of light is added.
