Thats interesting that you would say that, as I only have 1 mid feeder fish. the Plecos sit on the bottom and the catfish hide in the rock. Surely 1 discus on its own in pretty much a 3 footer by itself isnt overstocked?

 

Its about bioload, not where the fish live or swim.

More poop = more nitrates = very unhappy Discus

 

unless you're prepared to perform more frequent water changes, but i wouldnt recommend keeping discus in a 3ft

 

We generally change about 30% of the water every week

 

Try 30% daily. Even more so with juveniles

 

I need to change about a third of the water every day?? Thats insane!! How has he been surviving for so long then without only a weekly change?

 

I meant if you were to add juveniles to you current tank. They need to eat very often and their tank needs to be cleaned of detritus just as often

 

Ok so if I scrap the idea of juvelines what about the addition of Cardinal and Rummy Nose tetras? Those shouldnt be as demanding as juvenile duscus fish right?

 

He never comes out from his rock, so all you will be able to see is his head, which is better than nothing. Thinking of getting some white rock to contrast his body colour and get better visibility

This is part of the "welcome" Grunjhed - being told that your tank is overstocked, not filtered enough, needs more oxygen, needs more CO2, must be treated with more of this and less of that....

First thing I was told?: I'm overstocked. I was devastated! But once I'd forgiven the guy who told me, (I forgive you Small fry!) I realized that I will just have to get a bigger tank! And so I'm using all that I learn here to set up a really good tank for all my babies...

And if you live on a third floor flat... and decide to use Silca sand, you soon discover that it is a lot easier to clean if you have a house... because a house = garden space!!!
