Well on the bright side I'm using this extended holiday to start propagating more carnivorous plants!

Do you propagate them same way as most plants?

I am aiming to grow these from seed, others I have purchased or have growing out of carnivorous plant mix that I bought.

    Currently have:
    • Drosera capensis "Regular", "Wide leaf" and "white"
    • Drosera scorpoides that I am trying to revive from repotting @ the gardens
    • Mixed sarracenia pitchers that I purchased recently.
Just ordered Drosera trinervia, cistiflora, cuneifolia and pauciflora

That's all really cool!! Will they keep growing now that winter is on its way?
The only ones I'm really familiar with are the common pitchers and the venus fly trap, amd I know the venus goes dormant in winter. At least it does up here

I believe so, maybe just a bit slower. I don't think they have dormancy

Sad truth is that there is global hysteria because everyone is affected in some way. Not like Poverty or Hunger which kills 25000 daily.. That doesn't affect the rich. In December I followed stories on this virus from Wuhan.. It seemed too surreal. It was an Asian bug and people online were taliking like that. I wasd disgusted to read things like "Dirty Asians, they deserve this bug". Now that all the travelers are back there is outcry because a once 'asian bug' is now a nasty global pandemic which not only affects some poverty stricken person on the other side of the globe. This affects us all. The rich included..

Stay safe people and protect the vulnerable in life.. but not just now there is a virus, how about always?..

Perhaps @Hendre could start a thread

I don't have the plants anymore.
Had to give the collection up when I came to live in the UK. :(

But I had Drosera, VFT (numerous forms), Utricularia, Nepenthes, Pinguicula, Sarracenia, Drosophyllum

Current plant collection is mainly cacti/succulents & ferns
I do have a handful of carnivorous plants. But don't see myself collecting them in a big way again.

Would they struggle with the UK climate?
@Hendre that would be cool, if you did a thread on them from seed to germination and all that!
Where do you get seed from?

I have the more temperate species (VFT, some Drosera, Utrics) in my greenhouse. Heated to 5*C in winter.
And a few Nepenthes on windowsill indoors

Rachel o’Leary has many carnivorous plants, especially in what she calls her bog garden. Her videos might be worth checking out.

They eat micro organisms in the water. Also if you have shrimp they may eat the shrimplets if they small enough.

    Info from ADA SA

Oh ok, so then I'd assume they're not very big plants.
I'm going to google them now :D
