I did... Bought a little pill container R45 from lfs that they said were decanted Ocean Nutrition eggs. Perhaps also not stored under perfect condition on lfs shelf? I have it in the fridge now,

They should not be brown in color . they normally expired by the time you get them . See if you can get hold of some instant brine. They work well or I raised my corries on normal fish food made an paste froze it and made little balls drop them in and it dissolves as the eat . A bit less messier.

    Ok cool thanks a mil!
The egss are defs brown. What colour are they meant to be?
Will look out for instant brine, is it frozen baby brine shrimp or something that hatches quickly?
I have normal frozen brine shrimp but too big still for the babies. Wonder if I should try thaw and liquidize some, and refreeze?

You could use frozen mysis, cyclobs and hikari first bites(sinking issue) Micro worms. The brine should have an reddish tint to the eggs.

Just look out for the expiry date if you paying full price.

I decapsulated the eggs before hatching, and found that it works very well to eliminate the egg cysts.
The process was simple to do, and I just had to stand and wait for the BBS to change colour.

Set up a small plastic or glass container, with about 2 cups of water.
Insert an airline hose into the water.
Pour about 1 teaspoon of BBS into the water.
Let the BBS eggs roll around for about 1 hour, until they have hydrated slightly.
Add 1 cup of household bleach to the water and BBS mixture.
Watch the eggs change colour. They go from brown to white, then finally to orange/yellow.
Once that is done, pour the eggs through a brine shrimp net or very fine cloth.
I used a piece of a wedding veil set in a kichen sieve, and fastened with an elastic band.
Rinse the eggs under running water until you don't smell bleach.

To hatch, I used a 2L plastic bottle like yours is set up.
I used marine water with a salinity of 35 PPM or 1.026.
I keep an incandescent bulb going for 48 hours over the bottle.
The light warms the water, and attracts any BBS that have hatched.
After 48 hours I switched off the aeration, and changed the position of the lamp to shine in the neck portion of the bottle.
This draws the hatched BBS to the bottom of the bottle.
Then I simply unscrew the cap, and let the water and BBS run through the same filter material I used previously.

I bought small pill containers of 10ml from Plasticland, and using a pipette dropped about 1ml of BBS with water into the containers.
The BBS were kept in the fridge for a few days, and taken out and left outside to warm up o about room temperature before feeding to fry.

I use a plastic shot glass and mix a teaspoon tip full of Hikari First Bites in a half full shot glass of tank water.
Swirl it around a bit, and the powder soon sinks.
From there just pour it into the tank, and rinse the glass in the tank.

Unexpected result from trying to grow insuforia (from pond water) on small scale is mosquito larvae!

Thinking I should try rinse them and feed to the fry - is this a stupid idea?

What are the mosquito larvae floating in?
They make excellent feed for fish, as long as the fish eat them before they become buzzing nuisances.

They’re floating in that vile and sour smelling bacteria bloom one gets before the infusoria feeds on it and multiplies. So it might be easier said than done, and gross
Plus, as you say, there is a time window before they morph again. The larvae must’ve hatched overnight, didn’t see them yesterday

I tried to harvest the mosquito larvae from the jar but gave up rather quickly as it smells like baby vomit

I have always wanted a RO unit. Don't have really have anywhere to store the processed water though. Mrs wouldn't be happy with a big container in the kitchen

@Barry Roux - do you plan on recycling the waste water?
