Peroxide does work well to rid plants of algae. Problem with clado it that it always comes back is its a mission to get rid off. Bleach bath for the plants and tank redo seems to be the most successful way

I am using 1 part unscented bleach to 19 parts water (5 %). I dunk the plants for 3 minutes, then put them in a tank containing only water and 4x dechlor dose. All the plants are anubias. Lets hope it doesnt kill them.

Bit the bullet, and got some new Rainbows today from my local LFS.
I finally have some Boesemani again, to go with the Red Rainbows and Dwarf Neon Rainbows.
They are already coloured nicely, and within a few days or so should be fully coloured up.

Ever since I allowed the temporary insanity to take over, I have regretted getting rid of my fish, plants and hardscape, but know they (hopefully) brought others as much happiness as I got from them.
It will take some time, but the display tank will one day get to where I want it again.

Terrible photo but this female might be the only surviving offspring of my moscow blue male! She has the same slight yellow streak in her tail that he had!

This ratio works great.. I used the same for cleaning BBA, only issue I have had was with vallies... The leaves became soft and lost colour but bounced back shortly after...

Bought the very overdue quarantine tank today. Will probably have to grow out the cory babies in there once cycled.
But from there on - QT!

Good to hear. The anubias are showing no signs of death so far. Been 2 days since I dipped them.

It's water change day... My siphon/pump system makes life easier. Fill the barrel by bucket while the tank drains and then pump it full again..

Potassium permanganate, the bucket has my wood with a pile of moss/Sußwassertang in which got infested with algae. I also use it to snail treat incoming plants :)

    Oh that's cool.
Does potassium permanganate help with algae? What concentration do you use?

    Easy fill in action:
    1572943560389644416884.jpg

It sometimes kills it. Otherwise it's a peroxide bomb. I eyeball it in a bucket till the water is deep purple. Just make sure there are no fish! A 2ppm concentration is used to treat some parasites though

Potassium permanganate was used in the past, but usage has generally been replaced by other algecides.
To combat algae it is much safer to use either Hydrogen Peroxide or Seachem Excel to spot treat for algae.

Potassium Permanganate is toxic, and getting the right concentration is difficult.
Incorrectly used it will wipe out the beneficial bacteria in your system, and could harm your livestock.

You can dip new plants in a PP solution to combat snails and snail eggs, as well as unwanted pathogens before introducing plants to your tank.
To do that, add 2-3 medium PP crystals to a litre of water in a plastic container, and dip the plants in the solution for 10 minutes, keeping the roots out of the solution.
Rinse the plants in fresh running water before introducing them to your tank.

I use PP now and again at 1ppm as a sort of therapeutic dose, every couple months, on a couple of my tanks. At 1ppm I turn off my filters but leave them in and dose a bit of Stability over a few days just to ensure no issues.
At 2ppm it'll kill parasites and I used it at that dose as part of a columnaris wipeout. I had to leave all filter media in the tank and even so only tested a mild rise in Ammonia.

Dosing I followed, plus the info I was supplied by a veteran breeder:

Mix 75 grams of the powder with 1,000 ml water. If you have purified water [RO] use it. So, 7.5 grams to 100ml is fine also and thats the amount I mixed in a regular plastic water bottle. Keep that in the dark when not in use as its light sensitive.
Once you have that mix ratio made, you need 2 drops (via a regular eyedropper) of the solution per US gallon of actual aquarium water volume to achieve the 2ppm treatment level. 1 Drop per gallon equals 1ppm, so easy math.
Water goes from purple to pink to amber, and the cleaner the tank, the faster that happens. PP is usually only used on established setups to my knowledge. I recommend anyone interested in it does additional reading though.

If ever fish look unhappy, it can be disabled instantly with Hydrogen Peroxide (amount attached in image - be very careful you know which strength of H202 you have on hand).
For plants and snails I've only ever used H202, personally.

Lost 3 of the 12 Danios we bought over the weekend... Sucks to lose livestock.

Did a preventative water change, and will do so daily for a few days and see how it goes.

Re water testing, what options are there? I had a bit of a fright seeing a test kit at a lfs at > R1000
