No on their own they primarily feed by smell, and are keen eaters. I don’t keep rays with other fish, if you do there may be competition for food, and spot feeding may become an option.

I start them on frozen bloodworm, frozen crustaceans like mysis and artemia, and chopped earthworms.

In a month or so I’ll add chopped up prawns and fish, and cut back on the frozen foods, at this stage I’ll add some dry food like Hikari sinking carnivore pellets this will be what they’ll be eating by the time I sell them.

@Jwh, mom is actually still very young. if memory serves me right about 4.5 years old?

This size litter is actually normal for a Motoro female, they usually have 10 pups and sometimes more, unlike some of the other species
I agree in giving her a break but you can still breed her a few times if she has breaks in-between

I know, but's never been my intention to become a fish farmer, and breed anything. This has been her 5th litter, so a break will do her good.

I keep my Rays with other fish and have to spot feed them.
But it's quite easy. I use a long pair of tweezers so I can make sure that the individual Rays get sufficient food.

My adult rays are with a variety of other fish and i dont have to spot feed, they pounce on their food before anyone else!

Pups i keep alone as they cant fend for their share if there are a lot of other fish,
However i do keep some little geos to clean up after them,
They dont have to be spot fed if alone, I do it mostly to socialize the pups that they are used to human contact and less likely to spike you in the long run

    Oh ok.. makes sense.
Didnt realize she has had so many litters but I guess if they together that will happen

I keep the boys separate from the girls so they dont breed all time
