Without getting slaughtered again...I just wanna point out that freshwater crayfish are highly invasive and as a result is deemed illegal. Is listed as an illegal invert on both Nature Conservation's list as well as NEMBA's invasive list

If someone posts a photo of an illegal animal he/she acquired recently...should we not make mention of the fact that it is in fact illegal to own? So unless we can sing their praises we should rather just keep quiet while things like this is seriously hurting the hobby? How short sighted can one be? No wonder we had to jump through hoops to get our import, Nature Conservation and DAFF is clamping down...and it's because of things like this...

@RPG The policeman is coming to fetch you, and take you away and you will never see your house and your tank again :)

Dont kill them, keep them as long as you want, but when you want to get rid of them...then kill/euthanize them. Danger is...they chow fish like crazy, so people buy them...add them to their tanks...and when they start losing fish, they throw it in a river (without thinking about what's gonna happen).

It's EXACTLY because of that reason plecos are BANNED in SA now. They got too big for tanks, people threw them in a nearby stream...and now they've over populated the rivers of northern KZN. They dont have natural enemies in our local waters...so they became highly invasive to the point that it's a conservation disaster now (as they out competing our own species now)

Same will happen if crayfish got into our streams...even more so...

@Smurf Man is speaking good sense here. Im sure there are many people with blacklisted pets, its a matter of responsibility. I don't think Euthanizing them is necessary, pass them on to a responsible keeper who can continue to look after them until they die naturally..

Too many people are careless with this stuff so it can be a big deal. if you are enjoying them then look after them.

Very nice however, (my experience keeoing jags is zero.. ) but from what I have seen lately, you will have to keep an eye on them

They get bigger than Oscars and as I said, from what I have seen, they can get very agressive...

I rescued some cichlids out of a tank with jags in the last few weeks that were being badly battered by the jags.
Oscars can fight terribly amongst themselves for dominancy but my experience, they not good fighters at defending themselves against others.
Maybe someone else with more experience can comment..

    @MariaS

all my fish are in pairs / groups in their own tanks. (obviously betta are not together lol ).

Jags are super agro fish, and they would even attack your hand, same with the midas cichlids.

have no problems with my fish at all, if i have fighting i break them up or get rid of the bully, depending if i need them or not.

my oscars are a pair, since i moved them from the qt tank into a bigger tank i always find everything waay on the other side of the tank or so. hoping they are pairing up to breed.

if i have any problems ill make sure to ask for help. but i do extensive research before buying any fish and i also look at their max size to be sure that i can house them when they are adults. or i make sure someone can take them over from me.

sometimes i do wonder about stuff that i cant find online but i always ask.

thanks for the info tho, and making sure that i know haha. always appreciate comments that can help.
