I had one a few years ago, that was quite happy to take pellets and flake.
A bit of patience and they can be convinced to try new food.

I have found them to be sporadic eaters, i.e, they do sometimes only take food every two days or so, other times may may eat 3 bugs twice a day, if it has started feeding you should be OK. You are right they are very cool fish to have, keep your tank covered they have a habit of leaping from the tank. Good luck with your new acquisitions!

If the bump is in front of the pelvic fins it could just be a full stomach.

Yeah its just in front of them
I've been feeding him quite well on roach nymphs, flake and bloodworms so he could just be very portly

I also got some platies but tgey seem to be dropping like flies. They're fine for a while then they sorta clamp their fins and hide. Then they peg it. My last female seems to be constipated so I'm feeding them some plant based food. Will that help? She's also hiding and clamping her fins now...I guess I just suck at keeping swordtails and platies

Have a look at your water temp and add some salt

Household salt? It's all I have access to. And what's the ideal temp?

Aquarium salt. I always put about 7 table spoons in 180liter tank. So let's say about 1 table spoon per 25l

Mollies I know are more brackish than fresh water. Found that my platies and swords don't clamp and breed faster in salt condition aswell. Tank temp should be kept constant about 27 degrees
