Slayers 6ft tank

In the long run , fixing the stand would be the best option , although looking at it now it is the biggest headache. Cutting the tanks by 7cm will give you 14cm to play with which still might not be enough. Although I said 15 cm would be , maybe 20 would be the best. And to clean the big tank standing on a 3ft step ladder works well.

 

The question is... are you going to be prepared to empty the tank, in order to take the 6ft off, to resize the frame?

I have too agree with Donny on this one Slayer I would resize the stand before cutting the other tanks because if you cut a standard 3 ft tank to give you 20cm to work in you are going to loose 13cm on the tanks which are only like 30cm high so that is then useless as tanks ( my opinion) take the time and do it right maybe you can just lower the the part were the tanks are standing on then you might not have to raize the stand that much.

 

Thanks guys. I really don't wanna empty the tank, and the 6ft is high enough as it stands. Maybe I should just wait a while and see how the 6ft silver dollar breeding setup goes. This tank is going to stay bare bottom. Just added 2 pieces of dritfwood so there is something in the tank. Also need to buy some filter media either bio balls or ceramic rings. Will check the cheaper. Maybe I could fit in 3 2fts in the 2 3fts place, but as I said will decide at a later stage, no hurry now.

 

Or you can use the 2x 3ft tanks to keep the 6ft's water, do the stand and just pump the water back to the 6ft

 

Anyhow what ever you decide best of luck with the silver dollar breeding

 

OR you could use the 2 tanks at the bottom as a HUGE sump!

lol you guys are going to put me in expenses, I did think about it, and then brushed it off

 

took the tetras out. The silver dollars are in their new tank. Total cycle time 24 hours. No filter media, just floss, bare bottom just 2 pieces drift wood

 

think i might replace the black perspex on my new find with mirror strips, ...maybe, , it looks nice

 

As soon as my eyes opened this morning I ran to check on the tank, all is good. The 5 silver dollars looking healthy.

All is well with the SDs only thing is this morning I noticed this fluffy woolly stuff on one corner of the driftwood.

Sorry didn't have time to take a pic but is it possible for someone to advise me.
Its my first time with driftwood.

 

3 ft Support

Slayer – looking at the picture I see that the 3 ft tanks are only supported over the width of the tank, and no along the length of the tank. I recon that is not such a good idea. You should really think about support along the length of the tanks as well, as that is where the most deflection will be taking place. Seems as if you will either have to modify the stand or build a new stand for the two 3 ft tanks. Best of luck with whatever you are going to do.

 

Hi Slayer wont the drift wood make your water dirty as they decompose? I had the problem with my 500L tank and after i remove the drift wood my water started to clear up.

 

will not be filling them with water any time soon. the stand does have a single bar going across the centre. If I'm going to use the bottom of the stand I will get timber cut to fit in the bottom and will have to go with 3 2fts because of height restrictions.

It's my first time with driftwood, I had it submersed for a month with 100% water changes every second day. If the wood is small enough you can boil it for a couple of minites to cure it. Not sure how long it will take to cure when boiling.

 

How much are you selling the 3 ft for Slayer - lol
