Schooling?

I've heard that tetras can be potentially deadly to other fish if eaten...

 

haha you got me laughing my head off for that one!

having said that, i have 8 tiger barbs in a tank with a 10cm rainbow shark. he chases after them from time to time (when he's bored i guess lol) but i get really cool schooling effect a lot of the time

its like they kinda play tag with him and tease him a lot as well..

he chases them and they swim between the valisneria and he gets tangled in it and looks really confused.

real fun to watch so that might be an idea for you, for a sort of semi aggressive tank.

 

That's perfect. You don't want your fish hiding in fear the whole day, but I want them to be on their guard if I can put it like that...

 

yes, it works because they wont mess with hims as a rainbow shark is territorial and can look after himself in a fight, yet there are too many of them for him to harm, so it is perfectly balanced, and he'll never be able to eat them, unlike a silver dollar might hehee

 

You are right Zoom. The only fish in my tank(http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/showthread.php?6588-Community-fish) that basiclly always school is the Rummy noses. The tigers also school more often than the rest.

 

ya, adding something that is semi aggressive might just be enough to keep them on their toes, in the wild, they have to be carefull all the time as there is always the possibility of a predator, so you can introduce an element of something a bit bigger and more boistrous to kind of make them stick together..

 

I have d different tetras and must repaet what has been said, "My rummies always school, even after months"

 

I agree with vis, even being 3 my rummies schooled, they used to be 10 2years ago.

 

I have Cardinals, Rummies, Harlequins and Rainbows in my tank. The first three mentioned all school together in their seperate species groups, so I have 3 schools in my tank. The Rainbows is a bit too boisterous and seems to make the rest a bit nervous. That is why I want to sell the Rainbows now. It would be interesting to see if the different schools will still stick together after the Rainbows is gone, but I would imagine so.

 

Maybe not, but i can gaurantee you the Rummies will.
