A long time ago, I used to keep Mirror Carp and Tench back in the UK. Beautiful fish!

Also caught a good few 8lb Tench in my time, which is big for Tench, but never got any Carp landed other than Crucian Carps upto around 6-7lb mark.

    Regards
    G!

Yeah I haven't gone fishing for some time in this time in day it is safer going with a friend instead of going alone especially for weekend trip. Also big fish like these you dont catch so regularly in the big dams anymore due to over fishing, netting and pollution. If you want to catch the big ones going to farm dams are the way to go.

I've not actually been fishung in SA at all! Used to catch all those back in the UK!

The biggest fish I actually caught was a rather large Pike! Caught it as I was landing a Perch! Pike came from no where and grabbed it! Suddenly my rod bent twice as much, and it took an extra 10 minutes to land it! Must have been a good 15lb easy, but I had no scales that day! He must have put 2lb on from the Perch he nabbed! Hehe!!

I heard pike can be pretty vicious fish and they have teeth!

Pike do indeed have very sharp teeth! I got nibbled by them a few times! Drawn blood two or three of those times!

The thing is that they can suddenly move very quickly with no warning, and should your hand be in the way, then its pain and blood time!

Perch also gave a nasty bite from time to time, but nothing like the Pike! Zander was a kinda Pike/Perch hybrid (as I understand it) and was known for being viscious! I never managed to land one though! Always snapped the tracer line!

I do miss course fishing in the UK!

    Cheers!

Not much of a big fisherman, mainly because I'm quite scared I'll be tempted to keep what I catch for my tank. However, I do marine fishing and occasionally keep the more... 'interesting' stuff.

@ Big G, Zander are their own species. There has been a lot of fuss about the conservation of both them and their relatives recently.
