After 4 months I can close chapter 1 of Raising 112 souls. In the end I have raised 27 fry to this stage in their lives where they are big enough to move out of the house. Persentage wise it can be seen as a failure but the knowledge I have gained in doing it is worth way more.

I have kept 3 fry for myself. 1 male and 1 female kutubu and 1 fry I'm sure is boesemani, I did remove fry that I got in my sump to the grow out tank.

Very happy to say that the lfs I delivered them to are very happy with their quality and can't wait until January 2019 to receive their next batch from me. They are fully aware of the fact that the next batch, boesemani and kutubu, will defnitly be more than 24 fry.

I have also received two new life foods, cyclops and pea shrimp, which I hopefully will be able to increase so I can feed it to the new fry. I will also try a new method of getting peramecium going.

Ending with the last foto of them on their way, yes they are pressious cargo and that is why they are buckled up.36bc30d2cac82e50d63feb8d3c54ca19.jpg

Well done @pierreschoonraad .... its been an awesome thread to follow and I certainly dont think that 27 was a failure!!

The knowledge gained and shared with us, has been a success... not a failure
After all in the wild the survival of fry is often much less than what you achieved

Wish you all the best with the next batch and look forward to you sharing with us again

Thanks @MariaS. This was only the first chapter in a, hopefully, thick book.

Can't say how much I have learned from this experiance. I will gladly share any and all information here with anybody out there to learn from my mistakes and sucsess.

I jumped into this at the deep end and learned the hard way how to do it, and is still learning. Hopefully it will help other members in their own adventures with breeding. I still don't find it a chore, but just a wonderfull experiance.

Thanks Ferdie for the very kind words. Unfortunately I will have to refrase some of the words you used. Effort - fun learning curve . Skill - a fish keeping angle watching the fish room 24/7. Tenacity - giving my fish keeping hobby direction.

At the moment the thick book is writing itself so I'm just sitting back and enjoying the ride.

Day 22 for the new fry and changes took place. Due to the amount of fry I desided to move them all over to the 2ft I used for growing out the 27 kutubu's. I first had to secure a sponge over the inlet of the outflow as the fry won't stand a change surviving the wet/dry filter.

Before I did this I confirmed that ph and temp of the 3 tanks matched. With my luck as it is it was a perfect match. I didn't count the fry when I moved them but have taken a foto of them when I cought them all. So sometime when I have some spare time I will try and get an amount from the foto. I have also added a bag of rooibos to the tank just to be on the safe side.

Foto's as they will follow. 1. Kutubu 2. Boesemani and 3. The dotts in their new home.2d00ce5cc40065515d3a5d37189aff6c.jpga8d9e0775cde5e19c69171656014882d.jpg74d187300dbe41a42c9e5ace4fdb9f5e.jpg

Very nice color on them. Going on body shape only I would say female on the left and male right. If you look at them.from the side the dorsal fins on the male will overlap where on the female there will be a gap.07152e2b45c928c378359d98f408599e.jpg

Thanks Maria. Still a long way to go with these guys. But I do believe the outcome will be better this time around.

I completely forgot to take foto's of the todlers before I took them away the weekend. 1st is of the 2 kutubus, at the back with a australis at the bottom. 2nd is the lone boesemani with 2 of the 3 new australis rainbows at the bottom of the foto.

The foto doesn't show the marking and colors of the boesemani very good. There is a clear yellow/orange color on the tail as well as the forming of the vertivcal bars on the body.f06d898f4bf7d31e3317220cff0d26cc.jpg58b845b25d8f724372a0c8cdb935cd38.jpg

Everything is going great with the fry in the bigger tank. Due to the bigger water volume I have increased the amount I feed, just to make sure they get enough food. This leads to more uneaten food accumalating at the bottom of the tank in a days time. I'm sure that, with the filtration on the tank, this shouldn't cause problems with doing a wc every 2nd day, as I did before. Unfortunately I'm a bit over protective of this hatch so I'm doing dayley wc. Still works the same as before where I stop removing water only when all the leftovers are removed from the bottom. On the foto you can actually see the remaining food of last nights feeding.

I have added some Seachem shrimp and comunity flakes to the feeding, just to get more variaty for them and not the fact that I got it for 1/2 price.. Grind it up as I need it which just takes a few seconds actually. If I knew a pestle and mortar would make life so easy I would have gotten 1 long ago.a983876931ecf288270e68647a3b4e19.jpg

very nice... would a few shrimp in there not help? to chow the left overs?

is this both kutubu and boesmani?

Thanks Ammar. There are shrimp in there but they can't even handle the food.

That is both of them there. Having no problems at all.

ok i have about 100 blue dreams in the same tank as my fry, so they do a pretty good job of cleaning up.

mine are looking nice an fat as well, im only feeding micro worm( 3 times a day) and that pink powder stuff. i been told about hikari first bites but not sure if its small enough for the fry...

I mix up hakiri first bites with water and then pour a little into each tank. Only started feeding it to the fry once they are about 1 cm large. It sinks so i swirl the water as well just to keep it in suspension a bit longer
