Larch seems to always have the last word. Always challenging EVERYTHING ANYONE says. Have you guys not noticed this??

OK, why would the DEAT member have to comment on all the BL threads when WE GIVE you the law! The law is you may not keep, catch, breed, import, release back into the wild, sell, buy blacklisted species. What is so hard to understand. You guys are all looking for loopholes that doesn't exist.

Because I am guessing it is easier sneaking around the forum because people dont know who this mysterious person is. So he can take count of all those illegal fishies you keep in his little black book, then he calls on the hawks to stake out your house for several weeks. They also bug your car and house, before they call for ground and air support. That is before kicking down your door and filling your house of teargas. They also do this regularly at all the LPS hence none of them sell any blacklisted species.

I think that's SWAT lol... is that teargas ozone safe :D?

The thing is, it would be much better for HIM to speak to us about things rather than not educate the market and prosecute those ignorant to the law.

Right now its "Blind Leading the Blind". What the mods and other members say may be true but when you get the story from a DEAT representative, who has extensive know how on the topic, everything will become clear.

Little useless fact for you guys - In accordance with act 10 of 2004 there is a R100 000 fine and/or 10 years in prison if you release any fish in a waterway. This includes catch and release of non-indigenous species.

Actually we would like to know why some species are Blacklisted when they would clearly not survive in our waters not for even a single day. Also would be nice to know what process they follow when blacklisting fish, which criteria they use and what research they do (if any) to make up this list. We would also like to know what processes and steps should be followed if you want to apply for a local permit to keep local species in your tank. And finally we would like to know what steps are being followed regarding shops that keep on selling blacklisted species of fish and plants to the unknowing public.

So why then do thousands of fisherman regularly catch and release carp, bass and trout without any problems?

If I'm not mistaken they post all their regulations in a government gazette that's freely available.... I think it's at the post offices or something like that.
And if you need info you can give them a call or meet them at their offices. When I went to the Durban Branch of KZN Wildlife, they were very helpful and explained everything to me in detail. I went there to find out about exotics pets and the regulations with regards to permits and stuff like that.

Prior to this, I had the misconception that they were not approachable or helpful.

Oh and by the way, they keep tabs on the forums and online classifieds.

Maybe DEAT should get Trevor Noah to do an add for them like he did for Cell C "I am watching you [Insert dodgy forum member name here] like a hawk! pkaaaw!"

Lol... I actually contacted Bongani from the Durban Branch today and asked him about keeping local shrimp. He was out of the office at the time and said he'll get back to me next week so hopefully I'll have an answer for us soon. :)
