That sounds great, we will see what sort of flow that gives you, maybe if the flow isn't enough you could add a small wavemaker in the front?...but now you have a good idea of what the layout will look like add some small rocks around your plants...going to be sweeeet

Perfect, I have a bag full of small, smooth river pebbles I bought from @Hawk a while back. Could use them around the plants to help anchor everything down. Good idea thanks

Will one put the filter output on the left of the tank and the inlet on the right? Or should they be next to each other on the left? Can the inlet be hidden behind plants either on the left or the right side?

I need this much skill with the scape. Wow:eek: can't wait to see the end results.

Are they going to drop off the tank or do you need to collect it?

Thanks I’ll have to call it ‘our’ hillstream tank cause honestly its taking the whole TASA community to put this one together

I’ll have to pick it up

Yes, I'd put the suction one side and the return on the other, effectively pushing the dirt towards the suction

Ok so based on cabinet discussions (pardon the pun) we’ll have a stand made up (reasons are long and boring).

Recycled Oregon pine, strong varnish, the stand will be strong - we’ve used them before.

What do you guys think of the design?

Weren't you using an exsiting cupbaord though?

Would make the hight 80cm if it was me.

Also about the above post about collection. how are you fitting that in a car?

In a nutshell, the hubby doesn’t like the idea of using the sideboard. I’ve been given a rather generous budget to have a stand/cabinet made up that would fit in better with the other furniture. Will get a quote (probably tomorrow) but we have an idea of what it will cost cause we had something similar made up very recently. These cabinet discussions are rather interesting, but at least I have the buy in it seems

Cool, thanks, I’ll look into 80cm. I just don’t want the view of the tank to be obstructed by the dining table.

I’ll have to measure the car with seats flattened... are there any special precautions?

I love how this went from what thickness of glass do I need for a possible tank to
    I need
    Tank
    filter
    lights
    stand etc :lol::lol:

80Cm is better for maintenance on my tank but you'll have to decide whats better for you. might as well go all in and cut the dinning table down 15cm;)

Take sheets or blankets and put them at the back of the tank near the boot between the car and tank is my only suggestion. I did this without once and broke the front of the tank when it smashed into the boot.

Totally!! I’m sooooo grateful for everyone’s input in piecing the puzzle together. And I’ve been using TASA aot as research before pleading my case, and as a sense check

 Should be similar total height to the 180, as this new one is only 40cm high. I’m tall also. So should be able to get them hands in there

Holy cr@p I’ll have a heart attack  ok I’ll take lots of cushions and blankets. Assuming it will fit in the car in the first place. Else I’ll ask about a delivery. Rather safe than sorry! Thanks man!

Stand looks good @A new day

I like the idea of drawers, cool to pack fishy stuff away

I used a C1600 in one of my tanks in the past and its got very nice flow
You can also modify the spray bar a little to have the flow more concentrated at the front

Just double check the dimensions of the canister versus your space at bottom that you have enough room to take the canister out when necessary to clean as once full of media and water it is a bit heavy
I ran 2 C2400 in my 2m tank before and i couldnt budge the filter out from under the tank!!
I hated having to clean it!!

    Great, thanks @MariaS !

The filter’s dimensions are 28 x 23 x 34cm. So 34cm tall in a door that will be 80-90cm tall, does that sound practical?

Think I’ll ask them to not put a backboard behind the door(s) for easy electricity access etc. i mean then I can mount a multiplug inside the cabinet?

Will I have to drill the side of the cabinet to feed filter pipes through?

Changed the design slightly so that the entire cabinet is supported on the floor (no legs), just in case the heavy filter puts too much weight on the bottom.

Also @Whoknows you’ll be happy to see that it’s now 80cm tall. It will indeed look and work better, and I’ll still have an unobstructed view

If you guys are happy I’ll go get a quote today :)

That looks nice, also like the drawers, I am , among other things a carpenter and have worked with oregon pine (new and recycled) before and I love the idea of recycling old wood it has a nice look and feel, and even better if it is a little dinged up. It is going to look sooo good.
I agree with removing the feet and having it flat on the floor, more surface area to spread the weight, just let them put a 80mm or so kickboard at the bottom there so the doors are lifted off the floor a little, will make the door a little shorter but you still have ample space for the canister...looks good! I wouldn't drill the side of the cabinet, maybe bring the pipe up behind the tank, over the top and into the tank, you won't see much of the pipe then, it is only for the return which will be at the front of the tank, but the suction can go in the opposite back corner....wow rambling this morning, hope I'm making senseo_O:lol:
