I got a recommendation to use a Seachem Tidal 110 HOB for this tank, at a very good price.

I don’t doubt that it’s a good filter, but would really want equipment out of the way as much as possible and would therefore rather use a cannister.

What do you guys think? I can get a DoPhin C1000 or C1600 and they don’t break the bank.

    +1 for cannister for aesthetics.

Considering the Tidal 110 is about R200 less than the Dophin C1000 and about R700 less than the C1600, i'd go for either of the canisters. It would be tidier and you have the option of more linear waterflow from one side of the aquarium to the other, rather than the circular flow you would get from an HOB, which makes sense to me seeing as you're going for a hillstream setup

PS deposit on the tank paid, collection in 20 days. Gives me time to move the current tanks, get a stand built, collect equipment and supplies

You work on a deposit system there. Me like. I had to pay my tank up front and then it was delyed by about 3 and half weeks :(

Yep they asked for an 80% deposit. Don’t expect them to mess me around.

I’m thinking 2x Zetlight Aquas. Now that the tank will be against a wall, it makes things simpler.
Won’t be using particularly demanding plants, with planting concentrated on either end, and by eyeballing the one I got recently I think it should give sufficient spread. Crypts, swords, java fern, anubias, vallis etc.

What do you guys think of using this cabinet as stand?

Nice @A new day, Id go for the c1600 as it would be for hillstream loaches. You can always slow down the flow if needed but if more flow is needed then you will have to upgrade or add another (which wont look all that clean).

Another option for lights, you can pic up a 2nd Zetlight (one of the bigger units) on MASA as well.

This project is already very exciting. The cabinet will work nicely with the tank filling the whole space and everything hiden inside the cabinet.

Can't wait to see the flow and how the plants will enjoy it. Hillstream loach will enjoy this tank

Thanks! Cool I’ll go for the C1600
Wonder if the MASA guys would have the planted tank version? There is a marine version that looks identical.

    Brilliant, thanks!
The tank builder suggested just now that I add 2 extra legs in the middle (turned to match) for extra support, but otherwise looks ok.

I think @Blade use the marine version on he's FW tanks, unless he modified them.
