    From Nezaam?
Told you optiwhite is pricey. Do you know what it will cost in float glass?

Question, what's the difference between optiwhite and float glass?

Not sure yet what it would be for float glass.
Apparently the process of polishing and bevelling the edges is very expensive too.
    Awaiting another quote.

    EINA! That is scary.

I reckon that if you get normal old float glass, get the edges polished and bevelled and some clean, minimal silicon work, it would still look stunning.

Yeah I’m open to that option too. Might be more realistic for our budget.

Yes that is true but it sure does make a big difference to the look, not to mention safer as well.

Some will argue that you only really notice the difference between opti white and float glass once you go 12mm and up.
A nice silicone border in black makes a huge difference, have a look on masa and you'll see. Also I believe every tank should be polished and beveled, it looks so much better and is safer as well.

1st quote was R8,100 for 12mm optiglass polished and bevelled. The person accidentally mixed up the width and height of the tank.

2nd quote just came in from probably the most well known tank builder in CT, including high end stuff. 36 months warranty on seals.
    - R 4,600 for 8mm optiglass, polished
    - R3,200 for 8mm float glass, polished

    What do you think?

The price difference between float glass and low-iron glass is much less than i thought it would be.

Considering that a standard 4 foot tank (1200x45x45) with a similar volume costs about R1900, and has all the ugly braces, that doesn't seem too bad to me

Gapedi does excellent tanks, Ive seen his work in person. Even though the tank is 400mm high, Id still feel safer with 10mm at least as it will be a 1.5m rimless tank. Although I have a 1200 x 500 x 700 high tank in 10mm with bracing along the front and back panes and the tank has been running for more than 10 years.

This tank is quite shallow, with water volume spread over a relatively large footprint.
If I fill it to the brim it takes 230L. Filled to 30cm it will take 175L.
So not all that much lateral pressure on the side panels, compared to a higher 4 or 5 footer. As far as I understand the height of the tank makes a massive difference?

I reckon 8mm should do the trick if it’s a safety level of 5,7?
Just trying to figure this out...

Quote no 2 also states that the tank will be delivered and ready for fill 20 days after order has been placed, to allow for sufficient dry time (and I assume testing). Think this is prudent.

My LFS recommends a DoPhin C1000 or C1600 for filtration, saying that Eheim is near impossible to service locally...

If budget allows, I would opt for the optiglass. If you are already spending that much, you might as well get the best in the business for a tad more. Will be worth it in the long run.

    Thats much better a quote

I also think the difference between the two is not as much as one would think so if you can, go with the optiglass as its what your heart wants so you wont have regrets afterwards...
If you cant, im sure that with float glass and good workmanship the float glass will also look stunning

Better price now. Change it to credit and worry about it later.
