A heater? What's happened to your weather in Ruimsig?
Any idea what substrate is good for cobra grass? Don't think I can get any Aquasoil in EL.

I have a small small section of cobra grass in my tank in seachem fluorite...it's one of the only plants in my tank that doesn't seem to have had any growth since it was added...so maybe don't go with that :p ...although I've gone with fluorite again for the new tank...ADA I think will be just too pricey to ship. :(

Is anyone actually going with shrimps as the livestock for their tanks?

@Broder without ADA available right now, I think everyone's stuck with options like Flourite unless you can beg a few handfuls of used ADA from someone (don't have to cycle it then either).. Could try a dirted (organic potting soil) tank maybe, as they seem to be rockets in the beginning but become a mess in time..

Definitely... Just as cleanup crew. I have plenty if you need. Haven't decided on fish yet.
You're right @RoGe. I would go with potting soil or palm peat, but they release too much tannin and nutrients in the first couple of months, which always seems to cause algae (along with good plant growth). Think I'll stick with fluorite and plant the grass densely.

You guys are lucky...I've been on the look out for some, but so far all efforts have been in vain. I am also undecided on fish...definitely want a true nano fish that is going to work well with such a small tank...there are some strawberry rasbora in town at the moment...not the prettiest but they are tiny.

    I got 9 about 3 years ago
They grew into a nice colony.

However they are with some fish and the fry get eaten as soon as they pop. So need to move them

@Mark K if you come to KZN sometime in December, it will be pretty easy to pick up some local (mongrel) ghost shrimp..

I have a couple of red cherry and wild blues in my existing setup...but I rarely if ever see them, if I could get them out the tank I would totally move them to the new setup. :/

Shrimp bait! Chuck in a leaf (someone here will have to tell you which ones will work), wait for the ravenous masses to descend, then whip them out. Much easier said than done though!

Ya I can imagine its not as easy as it sounds...my tank is like a jungle as well which doesnt help...the main reason I never see the shrimps, they hide out in the back...just see one now and then as it skitters across the driftwood and then gone again.
