    Hi

So im going ahead with this tank, but its going to be a 1.8m x 0.6 x 0.6. Got a quote which is a bit more than the one mentioned earlier in this thread.

Got a question though before I confirm the with my LPS. Filtration for this tank will be a 3ft sump. Now, should I have the tank drilled with a corner overflow or should I just do a DIY overflow (Currently doing this on my 4ft tank). Please guys any advise & thoughts would be great. I want to confirm the order on Saturday.

Go look at @TomK's thread on DIY overflows....for me? Just have it drilled - a skinny overflow done by someone who understands them does not take up much space ....

    Hi

Just an update, I have ordered the tank (1.8m x 0.6 x 0.6) with a drilled hole for sump & skinny overflow. Thanks for the advice @azurekoi. Will be building the stand once the tank has arrived.

@Tiger barb, go with 200 x 60 x 60 = 720L + 10mm glass = safety factor 2.5 and then you can still get bracing top and bottom as well for added strength and peace of mind

if you are gonna go with a 2m tank then do it right, dont say afterwards, i could have gone a little higher and a little deaper - if you are gonna use that much floor space why waste it on 200 x 55 x 55 - have a look at my one in my profile album to get an idea of what it would look like at the slightly bigger size dude.. you will not regret it :)

oh and lighting - 2X54w t8 open channel with bat wing deflectors resting on top of glass sliders. much cheaper than what you'd pay for an aquarium light fitting

justt read now that you've already ordered the tank! scratch the above!

you could still go with the lighting solution tho.

@mydummyname I am definitely looking into something like that. Thanks for the idea.

Update......I have asked for a 50mm hole drilled for the sump. The tank should be ready this weekend. The next step will be to get the stand built. My father will be doing this for me and will be using 50mm square tubing.

Also, this tank will be bare bottom for now. Will maybe add PFS later on.

    Stocking list so far:

    2 x Oscars
    4 x Silver dollars
2 x Tinfoil barbs (other two died, long story)
    1 x Synodontis catfish

I'm thinking of just adding 2-4 more silver dollars and 2 more tinfoil barbs. That will be it, what do you guys think? Any more suggestions, thoughts, ect?

So you like big fish? I'd say get a fancy Pleco. Only my opinion though.

Hi there, 10mm will be fine for that size tank. Make sure that you have bottom strips and about 3 cross braces on top.

Just a update......fetched the tank today and my is it heavy. Took all my fathers strength and my own to carry it in.
Final cost came to R1600, pretty impressed with the price. I got a 3500l/hr sump pump, so I just need to build the stand, get the plumbing & the dividers for the sump. Should be simple. LOL

    Cell phone quality, apologies

    Update

Stand has been made and put in place. Plumbing has been bought as well the 300watt Jager Heater. Im just waiting to get a few guys together to pick the tank up and put it on the stand. Its extremely heavy, not a two man job.

    Stand just after assembly:

Stand where the tank will rest:

The bird cage & sump tank will obviously move.

An old 90Litre. I know its too small, but that all I got to work with currently. Will have a custom made sump built to fit at the bottom of the stand. The 90 litre just fits under through the bar's. I was thinking of maybe using a tank conector and adding another 90litre which Azurekoi suggested a while back.

I will play around with it before the fish go in, plan is to move the fish and ceramic rings currently in my 4ft with 2ft sump. The 4ft has been sold though. Im going to load the 90litre sump with more ceramic rings and let the system stabalise before i add anymore fish.

i dont think you will have a major problem initially, your livestock are not fish that produce massive amounts of waste, like pleco's and the like do, i think you will get away with it for a long long time to come befor you need to upgrade the sump.

If you decide to use another tank for the sump, I have an old 3ft (6mm glass, unbraced, and old) that you can buy for cheap cheap if you are interested.
