    you can also y the Osram Skywhite, 8000k. really bright and doesent give off hat yellowy tinge. Plant growth will always depend on th amount of light.ie hours per day and brightness, as well as there factor like nutrients and CO2

    Any electrical or lighting retailer will stock ballasts. Get dual 54W ballasts.

    Where do you get the waterproof end caps from? Or do the ballasts come with appropriate equivalents?

    Mmm interesting Q...

    But any aquarium light fitting would get wet to a certain extent, no?

    Lighting Warehouse has a 32W 6400K CFL Screw in type for R40... cant get info on the lumens per watt still checking on that.

    and PnP has a 15W 6400K CFL Screw in type for R18...

    IMO the CFL is great value for money and at 6400K it is going to be perfect for plants and you dont need to worry about ballasts...

    Allow me to ask a few questions if I may....

    What does CFL stand for, and If I am correct, it is not the wattage or lumens that matter so much in a shallower tank, but the kalvins? Let me say to liftcrazy that I really like your setup! Nicely done, I am thinking of copying it ;)

    CFL = Compact Flourescent Lamp

    The Kelvin rating on any lamp becomes the critical element when maintaining Plants and Corals as each has their own very special requirements. Incidentally or not :push: both plants and corals thrive at a Kelvin rating of 6400/6500. Its just that the 6400/6500 "color" is not ideal in most tanks especially the reef setups as it gives off a yellowish color...

    Remember that when dealing with CFL's you cannot consider that 1w of CFL equals 7w of T5 for example. You must always calculate it as it is, ie. a 20w CFL is 20watts of light for your aquarium.

    One more thing, CFL's are most effective when the tip of the bulb is pointing into the tank and not if placed horizontally...
