    Absolute bloody rip-off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Kompel costs R22 - R25 per brick.

These people must be crazy and it is this sort of rubbish that makes the hobby so expensive for the man in the street. Ridiculous!

tried that but the thread is abit cluttered with some waffle which makes it difficult to do a quick skim through...

will post if I get the analysis.

    Toemaar Gareth,

    Its OK...

The palm fibre peat bricks are supplied dry and they must be dry to draw up fluid, so if they are wet (julle het mos so baie reen gekry) then this is not going to work.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

thanks prof, that will help to keep this invaluable thread focused

I've been doing lots of research in the background since reading through here and must say that if these products (and a few others I've found & will share details of soon) can do the trick and provide a good plant susbtrate then I will most likely be using it instead of all the expensive big brand names!

ok I bought what the LFS told me is the same a plamfiber peat, now my question is how long befor it absorbs the water because I have had it in my bucket now for about 5 hours and it still looks the sam as what it did when I put it in there, and when I say it looks the same I mean it has not increased or become firmer at all.

I think the LFS sold K@K to me!!!!!!!

Gareth: I have only used it once for the medium for my whiteworms. It started expanding within a few minutes and started soaking the water up. It should start expanding, and the brick will become 'softer' as it does. I think that you may have been 'conned'. Maybe give it some more time. According to the advice from Prof Dirk, you should soak it for 24 hours. It could just be that it is a slow starter .....

Gareth, did it float on top of the water or sink?? It should float, and then mine expanded under the water. From the top it didn't really look like it had changed much, but when I put my hand in the bucket, it had expanded under.

I then broke it all up to let the water get to it more evenly!

    Cheers
    Big G!
