What about 1 pair of nice "feature fish", like kribs? You've got your tetras swimming at the top; the corys patrolling the bottom and cleaning up. Now you need a small, really nice fish for the middle. I suggest a pair of kribs. They are just as nice as rams, but much hardier.

Nice one, similar to my Tetra tank
Whack one a small school of tetras for contrast in the middle.

Stock levels in your tank will be determined by a number of factors, but most importantly will be the chemistry. Do you have enough filtration to stock heavily? Because you're talking about social fish there in your list, they'll all appreciate groups of 5 or more.

The Corys specifically need to be in a group of 5 at least, the Danios will need a group of 6, and the tetras will also need relatively big groups. I've for instance got 6 Cories and 19 Harlequin Rasboras in my 3ft. Living happily with 2 Otos, a Siamese Algae Eater, 4 Polka dot Loaches, a Pakistani Loach and 3 Kuhli Loaches. My Ammonia and Nitrites are zero or near zero, so I wouldn't say my tank is overstocked. Yet that rule of one inch per gallon puts my tank at being massively overstocked!

You have to see how your fish go together and make sure you're not overexerting your filtration system.

So if you're looking at putting small schooling fish in the tank, be sure to get a nice big group of them (20 tetras should look good), but don't buy them all at once. Rather add a few fish a week so as not to increase your bioload too quickly.

And about those Bronze Cories, they get pretty big, so you might want to consider another type, maybe some Peppered ones, that are cheap and look really attractive when they're older. My Panda Cory is also very cute and will stay even smaller than the Peppered Cories.

I don't really bother with the rules, I look at what the fish need (schooling fish or non schooling fish) and decide on how many will look good but I never go over board. If you do you homework on the fish you want to keep you will be able to determine how many can fit in your tank.

They were talking about tinfoil barbs that grow big.
they were just trying to make a point about the size of the fish and tanks
