Hey, instead of using the seachem fertilizer tabs, you can also buy diy, fertilizers its basically osmocote in a gelatine cap they are much cheaper and work just as well but with such a small tank those seachem ones will last you a while, just a tip for in the future

very nice ... why wait for the jungle to grow when you can just plant one.

Not sure how but you manages to get loads of stems in to a single tank - it look very nice.

It is going to be very interesting to see this tanks develop and what you do with your first trim ... keep them pics posted.

Shoh dude! Moerse money there, I've spent around R25 a litre across all of my 400l of tanks haha. It's a money monster

 

That sounds about right.

Just the lights alone for my 9 tanks cost in the region of about R20k, plus filtration is not cheap either.
Factor in hardscape, substrate, plants and livestock, and the price becomes quite hefty.
Food is a minor cost, when compared to the fertiliser and other chemicals (Prime, Excel Flourish and trace elements)

 

Interested in the PH pen where and what did you buy... cheapest 1 I've seen here is like R300.

I think you may have spent a tad bit too much on a first setup but im sure you'll learn for next time. The prime was a very good buy and im sure it will last u a very long time.

The quality of pH pens seems to differ quite a bit.
I got one that cost just under R1k, and believe it was worth it.
Mine is a HM Digital pH 80.
Not the most expensive, but giving me good usage so far.

As for the cost.. yes... its a lot of money but.... we all spend a lot more than we think in our tanks... just that not everyone adds up everything in detail as you have so you dont realize what you have actually spent..
Fertilizers are expensive but should last a while for that size tank... its the initial setup that burns the hole in our pockets!!

 

Check e-bay for the ph/TDS pen. These are the same ones most lfs sells. Sure they are not the best but they do the job.

I think the only place where I may have saved is on the plants if I had to wait and collect. May a few bucks on the hardscape. The tank was second hand, so saved a bit there. I tried the HOB filter I got with the tank and trust me the canister is much better. Altough small (which I wanted) the whole thing is automated via my local network. The rest is actually essential unless you are going to depend on donations. The price of the size aquarium is really neglegable.
