@allyzone is the stuff on the plants light brown in colour? Slightly fluffy? Because it looks more like brown diatome algae than anything else. This can be removed by doing water changes and patience - it is part of the new tank syndrome. I had this as well and it went away after a few weeks of regular water changes and gravel vacs.

The lighting period you are using is great. Nothing wrong with that.

Unfortunately the plant that you have in the first pic is Mondo Grass - it is a non aquatic and you can plant it in your garden - it becomes a lovely ground cover.

LPS sold me that plant. Can i leave it in the tank?

Yes it is light brown. Its mostly on my Fake plants. real plants dnt have much on it

Another Q... do i need to remove water everytime? Because the last 2 water changes i cheated on. Just filled the tank up and did not remove any water.

@allyzone - @Wyvren gave me the same advice about the mondo grass in my tank a few weeks ago but I didn't have any other plants so I left it in :embarrest:. It rotted in my tank and I threw them away. Take her advice and plant it in your garden. :D

You have to remove water every time - hence the name water changes - you are taking some of the bad out and replacing it with fresh.

Imagine taking a bath in the same water every day, just adding more water to the same tub. . . .

You need to take the plant out, it will rot away - I had it in my first tanks as well, it melted away within 3 weeks.

The algae is then the normal diatom algae that will go away soon.

Have a look there it is the 4th one listed there.

Unfortunately all LFS will sell a mix of true aquatics and non aquatics as well as bog plants that can survive for a while in tanks. It is up to us to learn the differences. Take time and go through some of the member setup threads where they have planted tanks. You will learn a lot about the plants and learn which are aquatic and which arent.

Ok guys.. Did a 40% water change.. what a mission to refill the tank after.. Did it in stages of 50L...

I've been leaving the tank light off from 4days ago due to the green water thing.

While cleaning my Tank i put the pump off and added an aqua mist and the croc with air bubbles. noticed while my hands are in the tank my pangasous go crazy. they swim fast and hit the glass... any way to stop that?

Also bought those foam/sponge pads and put them in the bottom filter

    my guess: ornaments

pangasius cats very skittish fish in general, so when you do your water changes and tank maintenance try your best to not move your hands and equipment around them or near them, or you might wind up with one or both of these fish jumping out of the tank, and they can jump for sure.

there are ways of calming them down, first and foremost would be to have them in a very large tank so that they feel comfortable and free, then of course lots of cover (hiding places) need to be in the tank in the form of lots of tall soft plant like vallisneria, if they feel safe with many hiding places they will be less jumpy and nervous.

the other thing is, beig nocturnal, they require subdued lighting, and tall plants like vallisneria will help here to provide shade from the bright lights of the tank or the bright ambient daylight as well.

and of course choosing the correct tankmates would make a very big difference, but that would probably entail you changing 80% of your fish to make them compatible with the pangasius cat fish. so that is probably out.

certain "dither fish" have a fantastic calming effect on these fish, but your tanks are not suitable for the fish i have in mind for the job.

    i hope this helps somewhat.

    good luck

    :)
