So i started with my tank this weekend.. I setup the small tank and letting the water run for this week...

Also started removing that "WILL" part from the plants and planted them directly into the gravel

Also noticed that im getting this build up on the plants... Is it bad? should i wash them or leave it?

@allyzone - Does it look like left over food and if you touch the plants does it float off into the tank. If yes then give your plants a light vacuum with a gravel siphon.

your lighting period is good, it is possible that you are overfeeding.. but i'mnot sure..

sandblasting the stand of the tank???? lol ok its too powerful for use in a home aquarium, you get much smaller little airpumps for that.

it is bad you need to reduce the time your lights are on to much light causes stuff likes algae hair to grow, I feed my Tiger barbs without putting the light on in the morning and the chow all the food with no complaints. I then have a timer that switches my light on at 16h45 and then it goes of at 21h45.

@hviviers75 - That's not enough light for plants (yours). As far as I understand they only start to photosynthesize after 5hrs?

I'm running my lights 06h00-08h00 and 16h00-23h00 and yes I do have algae (BBA) but I think that has to do with initial excess lighting period and ferts?

i had very bad bba (black beard algae), but i used to run the lights for 12 hours a day, i then reduced this to only 6 hours a day and i've virtually eradicated the BBA except for a few stubborn strands on a very few plants..

I ran on my 3ft 2x39w t5 bulbs for 12hours straigt every day and had no major algae problems. But the tank was heavily planted. Alot of ferts going in also and i only got a bit of alge on the glas thats it.

And there's the key... @Ryno tank is well settled with his plants. And he has lots of plants... So his plants can use all the nutrients in the water before algae can, and start taking over.
