I was wondering about that! So your comment gave my search direction. Apparently it is due soon. If you look at Canon release dates of previous models and years, they always announce within the first four months of the year. So if there is nothing by end April 2012, it will probably be pushed out to next year.

Exiting new features is bandied around on the net, so worth waiting a month and then decide.

The NAS Show is April 17-19 in Las Vegas and it is rumored that Canon will say something around that time.

Have you decided on canon @TomK ? You should really go to a camera shop and play with a nikon D5100 and a canon 600D or 550D and feel which you like more before you decide.

    Yes, Canon it will be.

My friend brought 3 Canon cameras over which we played with, 60D being the top one and obviously I have put my heart on that one. It is his wifes and he has 2 older models. (20D & 400D)

I read a lot on Potine (POTN) and it makes sense to buy a cheaper body first and grow into a better one, but to me it sounds like a waste to upgrade within a year, which is what is happening to most people there, giving testimony. I want to buy as up to date as possible and stay with that for years to come.

I have a HP Photosmart 945 Digital Camera at the moment and since reading Potine, discovered a lot of things on it that I did not know or understood. For instance, Tv I understood as something you use when connecting the camera to the TV, which I have no interest in. (For those that do not know, Tv is a special mode where you give aperture priority. You set the aperture and the camera show you the shutter speed it will use under the conditions) It also have Shutter priority, (Av - connect via AV to VCR -hehe) which I am playing with. So, I am in the learning curve and enjoying it, giving me time to save for the best I can possibly start with.

I am also not going to buy the kit form. I will buy body only and an excellent lens to start with,(something like EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS) building up lenses and assesories as money becomes available.

Once the 650D is released I will compare with the 60D and decide. The big thing is I have time on my side and I can chop and change my mind as I learn before I buy.

Ah, I missed your Nikon part. I am rather not going to play with that, as chances is I will want it and can not afford it, which is already a problem with Canon. Especially on the lens side, Nikon is out of my reach. I made my peace with it and is not going to scratch where it does not itch! Canon is way good enough.

I will when needed - I think we are heading for a DSLR revolution in the next year or so esp with integration and connectivity. The X10 is simply beautiful and takes good pics, small, easy fit in the backpack and will not tempt me in buying extra lenses when on the road etc ... if I bought a newer cannon I would be spending a fortune on L's or the to be released pancake EF 40 f/2.8 pancake.

A friend of mine owns a camera shop.
I was talking to him towards the end of last year about upgrading my 500D. He suggested to me that I wait until April of this year, as Canon had indicated to him that that is more or less when they would be releasing the 650D.

I will call him next week to see what the latest is.

600D is punted by everyone now, at good prices. 650D must be around the corner.

I went and got the 60D. Unbeleiveable price negotiated with studio22.co.za

I got the body only with the EFS 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM and 580 EX II.

Now I cannot wait for more lenses...

Just saw the conversation carried on!

Dirk, you must see on the photographic sites, what is comparing!
Here is a funny link that mocks it.
    LensRentals.com - Hammerforum.com

    @Zeiphex, pic one is amazing!

I am still finding my shutter finger. Here is one that I think is OK for a beginner. It is a pitty I did not clean the glass first!

Thanks @TomK :) That pic of the angel is nice, but yes it is a pity about the dirty glass. I also would have preferred it if shot against a paler, plainer background.

    Hi TomK,

Yes, that link hits the nail on the head......:cheesy:

Your pic is nicely in focus, but besides the dirty glass you need to work on the background to let the fish stand out a little more.

How is this pic of a blue-eye. It is only about 2 cm long. What does the panel think? Guess with which camera that was taken?

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

The file name start with DSCN, so it must be a 'Deep Space Communications Network' device!
