yeah - only other thing might be to add a bit of airflow ... but with our temps at the moment this is a counter.

If you really wanted to push things 8 hours off 16 on ... that is what 000000 but sometimes because you have plants that already have leaves this is not such a good idea.

I have read up on the Walstad method, to me it just seems like a hell of a balancing act. I am going to inject CO2 in this tank because I've got lots of light and rich soil so CO2 will close that loop. I have successfully grown plants without CO2 but it's tricky.

I knocked together a pvc overflow and tested it on the sump. It's normal 40mm pvc sprayed with black Rustoleum paint. I let the paint cure for a week then I soaked it in moving salt water for about 5hrs. Hopefully it will be aquarium safe. I will be cycling the tank for at least a month before we get fish.

To be honest, I don't know. It's the standard way of cleaning old aquarium equipment to make it safe. (At least it used to be 20 years ago)
Maybe it leaches toxins out the paint? Oh and we used to use vinegar to clean stuff too. Obviously you don't want to use any chemicals or soap.
