With 8 weeks dry-start I can now focus on building the sump.
Who can guess what I bought this for?

Dry start. I'm going to try grow the carpet without water in the tank so the cling-wrap keeps all the moisture in.
Never tried this before, only read about it on the interwebs:

I think you would have to use water and try and get a slurry out of the potting soil, then sift it for anything solid still present. This will probably cause the soil to compact more but plant roots should sort that out as they grow

So an observation .. last year loads of shops in BKK was selling or had display tanks where they did the dry start and then had these as display tanks - more so in Malaysia, this year I saw 1 tank with it. From chatting to the guys the year before - the stuff is great for a tank maintenance business ( actually a big thing on that side of the pond) where they get very quick results with starting the seeds in the tank - get them sprouting in days , then fill the tanks - but because it needs constant maintenance it keeps the business ticking ( you need to trim it allot) and the best is you get to do it all with in 3-6 months, new scape new layout etc.

Keen to see your experience with it.

PS uprooting anything in a dirt / potting soil / PFP tank is a pain ... no pain no gain!!!!

    Thanks for the feedback Ferdie
Everything I've read on the web says it's not sustainable in the long term. I suspect I will be breaking down this tank and in 6 months... I'll use that as an excuse for a new build ;)
