After throwing in a new piece of glass I did the mandatory silicon 24hr set then threw 120kg of H2O in an let it sit overnight. We don't have any leaks so we good to go.

    The colander is back!
The idea is to sift organic potting soil through a colander to get the big chunks of bark out. It doesn't work.

The "Bowl" is actually a plastic plant pot that will become a cave for those shy nocturnal fish. I cut a doorway and then siliconed some air tubing around the door so the fish don't scrape against the sharp edge.

I threw it all in the tank and capped it with rinsed pool filter sand. This soil looks like a nitrogen nightmare, I'm going to cycle the tank for a month before I even consider adding fish.

I re-arranged the rocks 100 times and then my wife got involved and then my OCD told me to just stop...

Looking good .. you realize that stuff will flatten out when you add water and fish ? Capping potting soil that has not be mineralized and not sure what this is going to do to water quality .... OCD might be the least of your problems ;-)

    Like the cave idea ...

Thanks Ferdie you taught me something new. I'm saving that link, this might be a disaster.

Agreed, first hand experience teaches you a lot more than all the videos on youtube...

So while we're in the topic of learning from one's mistakes I'm about to make another one with some chinese weed:

Looking good. Good luck with the chinese weed. As I understand it is not a true aquatic plant but will sprout in a tank. How long they will last is to be seen
