That's what my wife said. But it's stuck on with epoxy so I can't take it off without breaking the veneer.

Leave the pole for now .. ones eyes gets very used to the what it thinks is a distraction, see if you still dislike it one you have plants in the tank.

yeah that crack is weird - even with temps that must have been under some serious stress and probably would have popped at some point, so maybe lucky that is did not have water in and you heard that sound at 02:47:13 when thanks typical try to escape from the stand.

    Later Ferdie

Terrible news about the crack - very odd. As has been said probably good that it happened when the tank was empty. I like the tree and pole - something different. Leave it for now and see what it looks like when the tank is up and running.

pole is not too bad lol :) weird about the glass, it looks like decent thickness as well. Maybe the fish Gods helped you out cause it probably would have happened at a later stage when your tank is fully set.

Looks very cool, maybe frame the tank with some smaller diameter pole? That could help break the lines a little. I'm a bit disappointed that the bowl and colander have disappeared;).. sorry to hear about the crack

Sorry about the crack @Adrian Gatter .. that's frustrating but I guess.. yes, rather now that later.. just strange though..

I would also leave the pole for now and ee what it all looks like once you finished scaping etc...

Thanks guys, you're absolutely right, better it cracks now than when it's full of water and fish.
In future I'm building my own tanks.

So i brought my 3 foot into the house and filled it up to test my sandfall. Next thing i hear glass cracking and water everywhere. I wonder if it has to do with temperature difference. The bottom panel cracked.

I've had a few base cracks. Most from sitting tanks on wood bases. That little pad of polystyrene does a lot to absorb abnormalities in the surface your tank sits on but wood warps and isn't flat. Fixing a base is easier than sides because the water is pushing down on it. Think of a bath plug... put your hand over it and the water pushes your hand down and helps plug the hole.

Sorry the pics aren't great. So here's a corner crack in the base:
    Crack1.jpg

So then razor blade all the silicone in the immediate area so the plug sits comfy. Cut a triangle of glass and sand the sharp bits. Glass cutting is a contact sport, for me at least, there will be blood. Apply a generous amount of silicon to the underside and stick it in. Silicon all edges and leave for 24hrs.
