    Hi All.

So I am in the market for a new airpump but don't know what would be a good choice so hopefully one of you can help me out.

I have a standard 4foot tank (250L) with two big airstones at the back of the glass.

Currently, I have two airpumps (one for for each airstone), but they are becoming very noisy and not producing air like they use to, so they are starting to reach the end of their lifespan.

My plan is to get one airpump to power both the airstones. But I also want to move the airpump the to cabinet below the tank to save some noise. (currently on top of the tank)

Any suggestions would be appreciated, and also maybe where I can get them. Im in the East Rand Johannesburg area.

    Thanks

Tetra APS 300 has two outlets and will deliver plenty air, available at most lfs, repair kits are also freely available. If you instal this below your tank, get a non-return valve on each airline, otherwise you may flood the pump if the power goes out.
You should be able to fix the diaphragms in your current pumps if you want to do that.

I was looking at them but the guy told me that it would be too small for what I want to do.

It is not to agitate the water at all because I have enough water surface movement, it is purely a cosmetic thing.

The APS series are plenty strong enough for what you want it for.
I use a number of them, and have no issues at all, in tanks ranging from 1ft to 4ft.

I run a APS 300 on two tanks with a combined volume of 1420l, and a APS 400 on my 2000l tank. These are plenty to run airstones or sponge filters, not sure how much air you need to push through a 250?

How quite is the Tetra APS?
Also been looking for a new airpump, but scared to buy something and then they are super loud.

very quiet, let the lfs run one for you so you can evaluate the noise level.

The APS series is also called the Tetra Whisper, and the name is not without a reason.
Unless you make the APS stand on crinkly tinfoil, you aren't going to hear anything, and even then all you are going to hear is crinkly tinfoil.

+ 100 for the Tetra APS pumps. Had 2 noisy pumps (standing on sponge to try and keep noise down) and replaced them with 1 larger Tetra whisper pump. WORLD of difference. 1 Pump that runs everything and VERY quiet. Shop around for prices as I found they varied largely between my LFS

    Sorry to hijack the thread,

But what size Tetra APS would you recommend for like 5-6 sponge filters?

Pumps are sold according to size in litres, example:

This is perhaps not the most effective way of doing things but is generally acceptable. Also important is the depth of the aquarium (based on build). I took both into consideration and went for the APS 300.

So i have been thinking of getting the APS400, but i have read reviews where A LOT of people complain about the diaphragms tearing and having to replace them every 4 to 6 weeks. Does anyone have the APS400 and if so have you experienced any issues with it?

All the people here with the APS300, have you guys had any issues with it? I dont know if this is an issue specific to the APS400 but if you have the APS300 please let me know if you have experienced any issue with it.

Have the APS 300, going for over 3 months. No issues. Similar tank size.

I have a dophin pump that's pretty quiet next to a tetra whisper, but for the size I'd definitely go with what everyone is recommending. Very worth it :)

I have both sizes and have replaced the diaphragms, but only after 1.5 to 2 years of use

I run the APS 150 on my 540L with 3 sponges so I think the 300 will cope with 6 sponges considering it has two out lets as well. No issues with the 150 yet, have it just over a year now and it's dead quiet.

I am also busy looking for a new air pump.

To run a single 30 cm air stone in a 260 litre tank - 60 cm depth.

Which air pump would you guys recommend? the APS 100 or APS 150 - only need a single outlet - its basically cosmetic and for a little extra aeration...

Go 150, to run such an airstone in a deep tank will need some serious power.

    I have 5 Tetra 150s and 3 Tetra 100s.
I have had to replace diaphragms on 2 of the 150s and on 1 of the 100s in about 2 years of continuous operation.
The replacement kits cost about R50-00 each, and include a new diaphragm assembly (diaphragm and rocker arm), inlet filter and o-rings.
