    Good day Dinky,
I take out a quarter of the total volume of water, which is 20l, as it is a 100l aquarium ... Then i replace it with chlorine neutralized water.
The fish is not removed ... Afterwards, i add some fluids to help with the biological cycle, and a tonic for the fish's health, and two tea spoons of coarse salt ...
The aquarium has got a heater, set for 24 deg. The filter of the pump is also cleaned, in the same water that was taken from the aquarium.

@Kragkaskar - That all sounds perfectly good. I would however stop with the salt immediately and still do the cleaning once a week.

Also leave out the tonic for a while. What fluids are you using for the biological cycle and how old is the tank now in total?

Do you feed daily or twice daily? Your fish can go without food for a week.

Then just one last question - what fish are you keeping?

also when doing water changes make sure the water added is the same temp as the water in your tank you can get a glass thermometer at your lfs as sudden water temp changes is stressfull on fish

all I can add is this - NEVER EVER go back to that shop where you bought all your stuff. They never gave you the correct information on exactly how to set up your tank and they most certainly do NOT deserve your business in the future - gawd knows how many fish they killed or allowed to die by NOT explaining to their clients all they need to know - apart from the heartache they have caused you and your Mom ! They actually do not deserve to be in business to be quite frank with you!!

+1 - I have a fairly good idea which lfs that was and they are known for their horrid advice and the fact that they simply don't give a hoot! Will send you a pm with the names of more reputable shops in Pretoria.

So is naming-and-shaming against forum policies?

I think, people should know whom they can trust, and whom to stay away from ... After sales service is extremely important, even more so when your client spends 100s and 1000s of Rand of their hard earned cash in their stores ...
I would really like to enjoy the fish, if they can live longer than a month or two ...

Does anyone have some advice for a sick Pleco ? It looks like he's not eating, and it's colour is much lighter than it use to be ... I was not aware the they too had to fed ... So i whet to Pet Stop in Gezina and they sold my Pleco flakes. But he just lays there, while the other fish eats his food ...

I really appreciate everyone's help and advise immensely.
    Thank you all very much.
