    There are a few good sites in the UK to see waterfowl, but the nearest is a bit of a drive from me.

    It's a bit cold and grim in winter. :eek:
    But there are some interesting migrants that are worth seeing and make it worth while

    A good friend of mine goes mushroom picking in the autumn, and sometimes I tag along with him.
    He's quite knowledgeable re what's edible, and what's not.

    That's really cool. Do you have a lot of edible ones where you go hiking?

    Not that many.
    We had a very dry summer.

    But last time I went with him (pre-Covid) we did find quite a lot.
    Made a nice omelette :)

    I tried this once, but it didn't work.

    Bought some spore pellets and inserted them into holes drilled in a log.
    Nothing came of it though. :(

    @T. Guppy
    Thanks for the updates. Always good to see your photos

    I see that the south of Kruger has been really hammered by the recent rains.

    Yes some serious flooding that side. I think the whole country minus the Cape is experiencing a huge amount of rain but Kruger side has definitely been having it worse with camps being closed because of accessibility issues.

    Send some rain our way. We’re cooking down here in the Cape, and we didn’t get nearly enough rain this past season

    I can say the same.. our winter usually lasts until April. It's already in the upper 30s now. Absolutely depressing
